but why is it so big, close to earth, and very bright? jupiter is so far away from earth, i cant believe it would be in the sky so big, bright, and close to earth.

It could be bright for many reasons, maybe the orbit got shifted a bit, or the sun is brighter. Remember that Jupiter reflects the sunlight that's why we see it.

Lots of posts about it lately and it's been said to be Jupiter. I'm no astrologist so i have no reason to doubt those here on GLP who say they own telescopes and/or check current astral alignments.

the thing is OP we are being told it's Jupiter.

well where was Jupiter last year then? there has been nothing ijn the eastern sky (in fact all of the sky), that is THIS big & bright.....

I asked if Jupiter had a solar pattern, so for example, every 5 years etc, it came very close and hence the much bigger/brighter appearance......no-one commented......

so let's ask once & for all, why does this thing (if it is Jupiter) appear so much larger & brighter than ever before??

my wife & I star gaze quite a bit & we have NEVER seen anything in the sky like this before???

Many say it's Jupiter. I've been watching that son-of-a-bitch for 3 months. If it's Jupiter, it should have moved on by now right? I don't know. I've seen 4 orbitals/moons around it with just a spotting scope. I can see 2 of them with my bare eyes on a clear night. Three months ago it would show up around midnight to 1 am here in NC. Now I see it as early as 9:30 pm. It's not getting any dimmer. I will break out the spotting scope and check it out again tonight along with looking into orbit data for myself. I was just commenting to the wife about that thing this past Wednesday. I see I'm not the only one. Gotta crash now after a long night of parents visiting and many animals not getting along so well. Utter chaos but lots of laughs, hollering, & "new memories" made. I'll post tomorrow what I see...

You people didn't start looking up into the sky until you
heard about Elenin destroying the world.

Jupiter shines as an average -2.5 mag, which makes it the
brightest object in the late night sky.

The only planet that can be brighter than Jupiter at certain
times is Venus, but I don't think its visible as much right now.

Re: the big, bright object in the eastern sky that everyone is seeing is not a planet....
Everyone is noticing the Bright Star in the Eastern Night Sky. It is Jupiter !

Jupiter is known as the Kings Star.

And right now it is below Aries and almost in Cetus the whale constellation, which was known as Jonahs fish.

There is 88 drawn out constellations in the sky that tell the Biblical story. Everything from Argo the Ship (Noahs ark) to Ara the Altar and temple sacrifice.

Is Jupiter in Jonah a sign on the coming of Christ?

(Note, regarding Sirius, This bright star is south at dawn. Notice that a line from Orion’s Belt to points to Sirius.
Sirius appears to flash rainbow colors when it’s low in the sky)

:jupiter23:

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Matthew 24:3

It seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here. (Luke 11:29-32)

Now lets look at the first sign of Jonah, Jesus was in the tomb for three days and three nights and then arose, this was at Easter.

Here is a lesson on the Fallen Dragon. Draco !

This is the constellation Draco . As you can see at every Easter, Draco Constellation dips lower and lower in the west as the Sun (Son of God ) rises . It appears to FALL so to speak as the dragon was cast down in Heaven.

I remember as a kid looking at jupiter through the telescope and could see the 4 moons too. And yes it is true you can see 2 of the moons with the naked eye now... never have before, thought it was just a glare but now that you confirmed it also it seems to be true.

But have you guys noticed that every star/planet is brighter now? I remember that patch of stars near jupiter could barely be seen but now you can make them out clearly! It's pretty cool, and also there are tons of other stars that are so clear and bright. The whole sky is getting dense with stars.

The sun is brighter gets my vote, for what it's worth...but, yeah, it's Jupiter. I'll although add that it's the first time I've noticed Jupiter with my nekked eye, and that was just about two or so weeks ago. When I noticed it I had a wow-what's-that-moment just like you. An app for my roommate's phone confirmed it was Jupiter.

Think about it, the sun has been much more active and "hotter" than usual, lately.
