If weather conditions are right contrails will linger for a very long time and not disappear in minutes.

This is because a contrail is mostly comprised of either vapor or ice particles created from the disturbance of the atmosphere as the jet and engine pass through.

If it was only vapor it is basically a cloud and will spread out like a cloud and disappear although clouds don't always disappear. Sometimes they linger. If the atmospheric conditions are right that vapor will instantly freeze into ice particles. Those particles will spread out and drift like a cloud but will not disappear unless the ice particle melts. It might not melt for hours it might just drift about and linger in the sky. This doesn't mean it is a chemtrail it is just a cloud of ice particles.
