We're looking at this through an 8" LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope @ f/3 using a modified Samsung SDC-435 camera. The name change was a joke poking fun at the way the "Nibiru Insider" mispronounced the word "astronomer." It grew on me and I decided to keep it. |

Awesome & so clear to see this!! I just wondered when you have time if you can look at my thread & read the link that Planet X (Nibiru) is proven to be a Hoax? I off to bed to now but thought it might be of some interest and if you agree with the reasons that they made a mistake in their findings? Thank you Thread: PLANET X Nibiru Found in 1983 HOAX - Bill Cooper Said WHAT!!?? 2002, He died in 2001 |

Still plan on looking at CW Leonis? This is the recent video from the 'former' dwarf believer that is now trying to dispel the CW Leonis stuff. He's looking for proof it hasn't moved. I sent him here: [link to sha.ipac.caltech.edu] and told him to search for 9h47m57.40s, +13d16m39.0s Equ J2000 It basically shows CW Leo in the same place in 2007 that it was in 1983. It would be nice to have something recent though. I looked at the last Stereo A&B HI1 level 2 images from Apr 29th & Nov 24th, but, it's not on those images. Too Dim I suppose. I just looked at it. You wouldn't be able to see CW until around 5AM in the morning...Oh well. Last Edited by TBar1984 on 10/02/2011 06:52 PM |

Yeah, I'm keeping the apparent magnification as low as possible at the moment since the purpose is to show the orientation of the moon over time. Later on I'll increase the magnification and show the craters in greater detail. |

Childlike ! WHEN will you EVER show us a shot of Saturn, with it's rings tilted 90 degrees? Can't handle that one, can you ? Now don't obfuscate, change the subject OR say there is nothing wrong with Saturn or it's rings. Just take the pics and DON'T change the results ! |

I'll be chasing comet Elenin then (if indeed there's enough left still concentrated enough to see anything). Maybe CW Leo will be high enough and I can get 2 for the price of 1. When i mount my camera on a tripod, the optical zoom its 52X and the digital zoom its 2000x so pretty much i get the same picture as you, of course not the same quality.. The Lens are Carl Zeizz Vario Tessar (German manufacture) And the CMOS its a 3 HD-CCD Life its not measure by the number of breath you take, but by the moments that take your breath away. |

There's nothing more you can do at that point except buy a bigger scope. |

Come see live video of our closest celestial neighbor, the moon! Right now the telescope is an altitude-azimuth configuration, so if you watch carefully you'll notice the moon appears to "rotate" or "tilt" over time. This is due to the phenomenon of field rotation, which is normal from any perspective that is not aligned with the earth's axis of rotation. Your head resting on your shoulders is basically a kind of altitude-azimuth "mount." Quoting: Astromut Later this evening I will interrupt the broadcast, polar align the telescope, and then put it back on the moon. At that point you will notice that the moon no longer appears to "rotate" or "tilt" over time, thus proving that the reason the crescent moon sometimes looks "horizontal" when it sets is due to field rotation. It's simply a matter of where you are on earth and where the moon is in the sky when it sets as to what its apparent orientation will be. Here's the live stream (it's still broad daylight out here, so please pardon the blueness of the sky): [link to www.ustream.tv] Astro, can you give details on the equipment you use? The live feed looks very sharp. Is it a refractor scope you are using? What camera do you have attached? |

Also, this: [link to www.godlikeproductions.com] Then, overlaying an image of saturn so that the moons and stars match the astrometrically solved image prior to its over-exposure, as seen in the video link in the above post... [link to i319.photobucket.com] Voila, the rings are still horizontal. |

Astro, can you give details on the equipment you use? The live feed looks very sharp. Is it a refractor scope you are using? What camera do you have attached? Quoting: PhillSmoker Thanks! It's an 8" Classic LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain, so it's a reflector, not a refractor. The camera is a modified (infrared sensitive) Samsung SDC-435 video camera attached at the prime focus of the telescope. I'm also using a .3 focal reducer for an effective f ratio of ~f/3. Last, but not least, for tonight's broadcast I'm using the camera's built-in vertical flip function to give a true orientation view. Last Edited by Astromut on 10/02/2011 07:09 PM |

Schmidt-Cassegrain scope .... nice ... that must be an expensive one ;) Anyways... nice view ... even with the focal reducer in between. I bet the view would be even sharper without it. Good job Astro! |

The pic of Saturn show with 90 degree tilt was credited to the GLP SCOPE ! Your first, " How about THIS" WAS an out of focus pic shows Saturn's rings tilted to about 45 degrees from horizontal, excluding the extra degrees it would normally be with rings tilted DOWN about 15 degrees. ALWAYS a change to some 'other proof'; NEVER an answer to the claim made ! Your 'supposed' to be associated with the GLP scope, so HOW COULD YOU not know about THAT pic ???? |
