Thank you ostria1 that is great story. It is first time that i read that one.
I also heard that caldera can erupt really fast almost without warning.

As for the warnings, I guess we have some, a volcano can not erupt out of the sudden (I think), at least we should have some small earthquakes before the eruption as the magma moves up. But if we dont have seismographs maybe the people cant sense them.
