There have been now 1.2 earhquake in caldera and 20km deep 2.7 earhquake also in the caldera. Near santorini there had been 158km depth 4.1 earhquake.

This is quite alarming also. It really looks like santorini becomes more and more active.

I stood at Knossos on Crete and imagined the tsunami that hit from Santorini. They tell the story so well - you can really picture the horror of it.

I am about to leave the internet and hit the beach for a holiday until the New Year (that picture in my avatar is where I'm going). I can only hope that it all settles down as I am not going to be bothering too much with news bulletins. I will be thinking of you all and hopefully will come back in January to find that it has all settled down.

We stay in Santorini for the summer. Next door neighbour is tour guide doing volcano trips. She says sulphur smell worse this year than last. Discolouration from undersea springs also more noticeable.

I'm sure that they dont give nothing information to the media before it is almost too late. That is because this place is really really important tourist place and it would be chatastrophe if they told the media that something is awful wrong and nea kameni/santorini could erupt.

Sure it would be a big problem as Santorini was Named “Best World’s Island” in 2011 by BBC Travel. It is the first time that it reached the top of the list.

“In Santorini, you feel like no other spot on earth. Here, 120 miles southeast of mainland Greece, everything is brighter: the white houses, the sea and the sunsets over the caldera,“ reports the BBC.

Yes ann winning that price was right. It is number one in the world. Unfortunately it can be number one also in most dangerous place in the world if caldera will show its power.Hoply not. I dont know what can cause that seismo movement.

I guess it is plate movements in the whole area. And I notice today some small quakes around Athens as well.

There have also several 0,3-1.1 earthquakes in caldera.
Really shallow seismic activity continues and seismographs also shows that this movement could be volcanic.

Kolumbus submarine volcano (Santorini, Greece): 3.2 magnitude earthquake

At 19h22 GMT (21h22 local time), a 3.2 earthquake occurred at the little-known submarine volcano Kolumbos ca. 8 km NE of Santorini, Island, Greece. This marks one of the largest events in recent months.
The submarine volcano whose peak rises to just 18 m below sea level, is located on the tectonically active SW-NE fault system across Santorini which confines most volcanic vents of the Santorini volcanic complex in the past 500,000 years.
Kolumbus volcano last erupted in September 1650 following a year of frequent earthquakes. The eruption produced a large explosive pumice eruption, with ash fall recorded as far as Turkey, and built a temporary island. The main phase of the eruption triggered a devastating tsunami....

Thank you IWB that was information what i looking for. I'm really busy now in my work so i dont have time really much to watch now every infromation channels.

Anyway this is spot what to watch. I think there is coming huge volcano complex where is this place and santorini. Both of them shows really much rising activity. Things are going really bad way there now.

Re: Santorini (nea kameni volcano) unrest. Water tempature in caldera rising! Magma spot also detected 4km depth.
Great information again. Really much thank you. Well i fear that both of those two volcanoes, neakameni and kolumbo have same magma chamber. It is good and bad thing. Good thing is that magma chamber then could erupt from two vents and that why i think eruptions are smaller.

Of course if there is enough power in megaeruption then it is really really bad thing. But i dont think that there is enough power to do that.

By the way it looks likes santorini eruption is late now it normally date. It erupts every 30-50 year and then there is little eruption. If it takes longer there have been bigger one. Last eruption had 1950. That is not good. It is sure there will be eruption some day and in this place it is better that it erupts often and smaller.

Yes it is from neakameni and here is some recently earthquakes from near santorini. Seismos are really bad looking again and looks like there is lots of seismic activity. I think magma moves.

4.4 earhquake really deep near santorini.

Plates are moving and it is true that every earthquake and platemovement makes magma here and place where it will came up some day is thera caldera in sanorini.

Really good article about that earthquake and im also sure that will happen some day. Lets hope that place is not thera caldera.

2.5 earhquake hits directly in crater. There have been three smaller quakes also today but in my opinion that swarm is not bad but now we had to check how many quakes there will be after this one.

Activity is continue and seismographs shows that magma bubles beneath santorini.

There have been now lots of earthquake activity. That activity includes also one 3.0 earthquake in caldera. This swarm is now about 48hours long and earthquakes are bigger than normally.
