In that article i notice that scientist says that volcano crust is rising upwards. It is really bad thing. It collects magma and pressure then and it is really bad signal. |

Magma spot also detected 4km depth. [link to geophysics.geo.auth.gr] Here is again that earthquake map and you can see there have been several 2.5-3.9 erthquakes today. About that swarm that scientist told that it not effect about in santorini volcano. Well i think and history shows it is bullshit. Luzon earthquake 1990 was reason wich one started pinatubo eruption 1991. Distance those two place is much more than crete and santorini. I'm sure that those earthquake swarms together another signals are start to countdown to that day when santorini erupts. |

Quoting: so-gui-li What makes me worrie is that the seismologists in Greece are not very keen on making such statements. And this is the second atricle I read about this issue this week. If i finf the other article i will post it. Edit Here is the link [link to www.defencenet.gr] And the translation In the "microscope" of seismologists, geologists and volcanologist in recent months is the island of Santorini. The seismic activity near the underwater volcano Koloumbo puzzling scientists who study all the information and data. The protothema.gr states that already in the previous week were Italian volcanologists who investigated the activity of the volcano and is currently the island's caldera is the Institute for the Study and Monitoring of the volcano. According to seismologists, there is evidence for some anomalies, but this is worrying. The earthquakes are in the range of 2 to 3 Richter, sizes very common in Greece. But the local authorities show no particular concern as they often have earthquakes of this size. The underwater volcano located about Koloumbo 8 km northeast of Santorini. It has elliptical shape, rises 300 m from the bottom and center and the center is a caldera 3 km in diameter and a depth of 500 m. Apart from the central volcano are about 12 other smaller cones. The volcano Kolumbo gave in September 1650 the only historical eruption outside the area of the caldera of Santorini. Preceded by intense seismic activity. Gradually the soft output magma has built an underwater volcano 30 km diameter and a height of 300 m, whose top just emerged from the sea. There followed a huge and violent explosion, which ejected about 2 km3 of ash thousands of meters in height. The pumice that has floated around the sea like land. The ash traveled east to Asia Minor. The central part of the volcano precipitated the empty magma chamber and formed a submarine caldera 3 km in diameter and a depth of 500 m. The small island that was left over from the sea rapidly eroded by waves. Today, the highest point of the volcano is located 18 m below sea level. The creation of the caldera caused massive tsunami of 10 m that swept the coast of Santorini and the Aegean. But what has caused civilian casualties were the volcanic gases. Vast quantities of hydrogen sulfide were released and caused the death of 70 residents of Game and over 1000 animals. The inhabitants of Santorini to exorcise evil built near Cape Koloumbo the church of "Panagia of good." The explosion of Koloumbo is the largest explosion occurred in the eastern Mediterranean over the last millennium. In 2006 a mission of the NOAA Ocean Explorer (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) revealed that the bottom of the crater caldera is a large hydrothermal field. By hydrothermal resources leaving hot hydrothermal fluids with measured temperatures up to 224 oC. The fluids have deposited multimineral sulphides and sulphates and built stacks of up to 4 m. Moreover, hydrothermal resources are covered with a thick layer of bacteria. Note finally that the activity observed, this is the next day to take place in Santorini conference with participation of specialists to inform the public Last Edited by OXI Foveras on 01/27/2012 12:06 PM Love responsibility, keep saying, I alone will save the world If it gets lost, myself only is responsible N.Kazantzakis |

Great if you can pick good info from greek sites and magazines my greek language skill is really limited =D. |

The seismic activity is increasing and people in the area must be prepared for any senario. Here is a link for the seismic activity in Greece. [link to www.earthquakenet.gr] In the past 5 hours I can see about 15 earthquakes in the area. I think the prosses is accelerating Love responsibility, keep saying, I alone will save the world If it gets lost, myself only is responsible N.Kazantzakis |

Now swarm places are front coast turkey and south from santorini. |

Magma spot also detected 4km depth. No nothing information and there is nohing warnings is not yet on. They invest what is going on and what i know is that: -Huge swarm on sw from santorini and -There have been many big swarms directly in magma chamber now about one year -Santorini Neakameni kolumbo fault line is shaking really much -Sulfur smells around island -Magmachamber crust rise and it do it quite fast -Lots of scientists are investing what is going on around the world -Scientists warns that all scanarios are possible. -And what worries me is that almost all official data is secret and it is not public. You can get all other part from greek lots of data but not from santorini... There is maybe now most important infomation what i have. Not much. We can only wait and see what will happen. |

Japan last tsunami was about 14-15meter high and when santorini exploded its full potential the tsunami wave was 150m high... |

Magma spot also detected 4km depth. UPDATE FROM [link to www.volcano-news.com] 1. Inflation From 1993 until 2010 there was deflation in the caldera of about 1cm/year, since the beginning of 2011 that has changed to inflation centered at a radius of 15 km on the north part of the caldera, rapid episodes of inflation have been recorded at intervals that coincide with bursts in seismic activity. Since August the intensity of the phenomenon warranted a rise to alert level 4 (red), where it has remained ever since. 2. Magma column A displacement of 107 cubic meters has been located 1km north of the central island of Nea Kameni at a depth of 4 km, it is hypothesized that it is a magma intrusion, located right at the center of the most seismicity active part of the caldera. 3. CO2. Co2 levels have jumped to 39 tonnes/day along with the emission of other gasses, a rising gas column has been observed outside the port of Thirassia in the caldera (the island on the west rim). 4. Water temperature. The rise in sea water temperature in the caldera has been confirmed. |
