How long will these japan "Aftershock" quakes last?
I know that big quakes like the japan 9.0 have plenty of aftershocks, but to me it seems this quake has produced more aftershocks than other quakes of the similar magnitude. Also the intensity(magnitude) of these quakes does not seem to be dropping. Just about every day we see about 2-3 of these quakes ranging from 4.5 to nearly 6.0. It has been almost 7 months now from the quake and i would like to ask anyone that is more knowledgable on the subject of earthquakes.

What i mean is, is it normal for this many aftershocks to occur and for so long?

Does anyone know where to find any other good info on other quakes of the same magnitude(duration of aftershocks and intensity)? Does any of the other quakes like the 9.0 correspond to the amount of aftershocks this quake has produced?

very good question OP
where is all this energy going? shouldnt there be also "biq" quakes on "the other side" of the plate?

Re: How long will these japan "Aftershock" quakes last?
I found a list of some of the aftershocks of the main quake but it only lists the aftershocks of magnitude 6.0 or greater. The link says that there was a total of 900 aftershocks for this quake but that number just does not seem right to me. The night the main quake occurred i was awake browsing through a different forum and had the TV on cnn, I had watched all of it unfold live. After that night i guess i got a little obsessed in tracking the number of quakes to follow for the next 3 days and withing just 3 days i counted nearly 300 of them. I stopped keeping track after the 3 days so i would not know the real number of them anymore, but i really don't believe that it is just 900 seems like a smaller number then i would imagine.

The link for the list of aftershocks ranging from 6.0-7.9 [link to en.wikipedia.org]

It is normal for a magnitude of that size, the aftershocks can happen for years after.
What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.

i understand that it normally would but after the 9.0 quake that struck Indonesia in 2004 did you see a consistent amount of quakes of the intensity that we see with the ones that occur to this day?

I suppose it depends on the faults the earthquakes happen upon. I didn't follow Indonesia' quake so won't surmise on that. But the quake that hit Japan hit a spot where three different faults meet, the main quake could easily have been bigger than it was because of where it was.
What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.

I've looked pretty hard and cannot find records for aftershocks of any of the other high magnitude quakes. Seems to me as if the japan quake has been more closely watched regarding other quakes of similar intensity.

They say it will last for years.

For example, when there was a huge Eq in Indonesia, there was another huger afterquake a year later.
