Step outside tonight just after sunset and look southwest. You´ll see the Moon, a beautiful crescent, having a close encounter with the red supergiant star Antares. Antares is 15 times more massive and 10,000 times brighter than the sun. Good thing it´s 600 light-years away; some astronomers believe it´s ready to explode! [sky map] |
