The systems are separate from civilian networks, I-Net, I-Net II, etc. BUT, systems can be infiltrated remotely via sleeping packages. Once delivered the satellite connection can be rerouted to the hackers control. At that point the entire drone is under hackers commands.

Weapons designers try to build safety redundant systems. They work BUT like anything else, they can be used to embed the virus and prevent any form of cleaning. Or the device self destructs.
