Several of us have seen this star in the Big Horn Mountains. It appears to bounce around, but basically stays in the same place. It is very colorful and bright. We see red blue and green. Don't know what it is but would sure love to know. Interesting!

NO, these are STARSHIP arcturus, and StarSHIP Jupiter.

No. It's the STAR Arcturus (in the west after sunset) and the PLANET Jupiter (in the east after sunset).

Re: What's that star blinking like crazy right now?
I saw it last evening this time, it is about 30 degree up on west sky, the brightest star, it blinks red, blue/green and yellow few times per second. I was going to call my friend out to check it out, but she is doing a test online. So I didn't.

Two hours later I went out check it again. the star disappeared. I thought to check it tonight.

Now, it is in the same position, flushing/blinking and it is the brightest one in the whole sky. I am in S IL, wonder what star is it? Why is blinking like that? I am going to check it every hour, why is it disappeared last night?

Anyone has a clue? Maybe the blinking is not weather related? Maybe it was not a star?

I am sober no matter how stoned when looking for truth.

STAR SHIP Arcturus. Stars don't do that, starships do. It disappears because the earth revolves and it sets, being parked in the same place every night.

Here where i live we have one in the NORTH east every night, stays in roughly the same place all the time. at easy height from the horizon to be seen clearly.

I believe I'm seeing this right now. It's flashing red, white, bluish and very bright. I just brought my family outside to look at it. We all agreed it didn't look like a normal star with all the bright blinking. Love the red color. I'm also seeing a few others right now. I've got my google sky app up and it's not showing these objects. VERY COOL!

It's in the eastern sky above the horizon RIGHT NOW. It's not alone as there are clearly others near it. There is also a vertical line of three "stars" to the right of it with another blinking red, white, blue star to the right of that. All are about the same height.

Anyone have a telescope? Binoculars?

Re: What's that star blinking like crazy right now?
The star is Capella (the golden star), the 6th brightest star in the sky besides the sun. It blinks fiercely red, green, blue - all colors of the rainbow, when it's low on the NE horizon because of the light refracted in the atmosphere. As it rises higher in the sky, the colored blinking stops because you're seeing it through less atmospheric conditions. So it doesn't actually disappear. It's there the whole time - just looks differently from higher above.
