That's awesome man...looking to do something like this myself. Only 1 or 2 chickens though we only use about 6 to 12 eggs a week.
You only hear about SpecOps when they go wrong.

Re: Chicken Coop addition and chicken updates!
You did a wonderful job. I love your fencing and that you put paneling up to insulate against the cold. Mine has that, and I had to cover the top of it because chickens will get up there, fall behind, and it's a real nuisance getting them out. So if you come up missing a hen, it's a good place to look. 8)

When you're doing your door, even if you don't plan on it now, if you cut to the measurements in the link, it's a perfect size.

It's a little pricey for a few chickens, but you just wouldn't believe the amount of work and worry it saves you.

After you've gotten familiar with the timing, no more hurried trips home to get there before dark and predators. No more guilt about sleeping in an occasional morning while the hens are trapped inside. I absolutely love it.

Love your pen too. Great job, and thanks for sharing.

Good work! Be sure it is warm enough for the chicks, I had to keep mine inside for a few months with a heat lamp until they grew their feathers out

Are you feeding lay mash? You know they don't lay till about 6 months. Then will lay for about a year and then molt or stop for a few months and then start up again?

Just asking?

Good job, garymule..

I use a heat lamp in the winter, and you might line your chain link with hardware cloth, I had a baby possum reach through a two inch slit where a feeder would be. Snakes too.

You are a good chicken person

Nice coop.

We have birds also, but only for eggs and breeding. I breed strickly for egg color, production and temperament. We will not kill them they are pets.

We started out with leg horns back in 95. Now I have several different breeds, Ameraucana, Rumpless Araucana, Silkies, easter eggers and one barred rock. I have about 30 birds right now.

Either one, but the lampholder with a ceramic base you know where you screw the light into. They sell a cheaper one that is plastic in one place at the home dep and they have the ceramic at another.. It handles the heat of the lamp, so no fires.

I am in CA right in and have opossums and a raccoon family,
we have a truce, I keep mass quantities of cat food out there and they don't eat my pet chickens. I have 27 boys who have their own 3x3x2 ft condos and about twenty girls some of them are land, some like the trees, but we have a acre of grass and warm weather. I am moving to OK and built a 20x80 metal barn on concrete, also a 20 by 50 outdoor roofed hardware cloth enclosed out door run right now and having it heated and air conditioned! (The barn) I have a great couple that have befriended me and Otto, a Keetowah told me about the snakes and ferrets and minks, I already saw the opossums and raccoons there cause I am on Barron Fork Creek, plus the snow!!! Burrrrrr

That is true! They also will follow you around like begging puppies, when I work in the garden they get the worms and the damaged tomatoes! Do you have any chickens?
