Dogs Leapt to their Deaths from Overtoun Bridge in Scotland?
This is an old story but it still gives me chills. I did a search and didn't see it posted before...but if it was I think it's work a read again. Pretty strange story....

For Donna Cooper, the worst thing about watching her collie dog, Ben, leap to his death has been the effect it has had on her two-year-old son Callum.
'Nearly a year on, Callum still asks about Ben. He was very upset by the dog's death and wants to know if his leg has been fixed in heaven,' she says.

Just 12 months previously, Donna, her husband and son were walking their dog across the picturesque Overtoun Bridge in Milton, near Dumbarton, Scotland.
Without warning, Ben leapt over a parapet on the century-old granite bridge and fell 50ft to his death on the rocks below.'His paw was broken, his jaw was broken and his back was broken and badly.

Only thing that I can think of is there must be some type of spirit that is calling the dogs to jump to their death. It's a strange story for sure...

I was there about 15 years ago (without my dogs) It felt odd, there was a high wind and i felt some really odd vibrations and the wind caused some wierd sounds.

My dogs werent with me so it wasnt a problem.

That said, where i live we dont have much wind BUT when we do my dogs go ape!

Makes sense to me. Dogs hear stuff we dont.

I was walking with a German SHepard (alsatian) on top of seaside cliffs The dog heard something down the bottom and just ran straight off the cliff.

Somehow the dog survived, kind of tumbled down, but in the end was just a bit briused and shake.
For a minute there we were all certain it was game over. Pretty amazing it wasn't.
Just goes to show this kind of shit happens all the time.
And that dogs normally bounce well.

I read about this before, another weird thing is if dogs survive the fall, they make their way back up just to try again.

Dogs are SCUM anyway. Domesticated rats with no set-purpose for humanity other than to be trained as a weapon. The more that jump off this bridge (or any others) the better.

Saw a tv piece on this subject a few years ago - apparently the dogs very strong sense of smell is attracted to a particular animal which inhabits the area below the cliff - that's why they jump over, the power of smell!

Re: Dogs Leapt to their Deaths from Overtoun Bridge in Scotland?
Maybe the dogs aren't aware they are on a bridge, and they think that is a wall with level ground on the other side.

Good reason to make sure your dog is on a leash on a bridge as they don't have the same situational awareness to know that it is a bridge.

A dog would have to be able to define the word bridge to understand the nature of the danger on the other side of that solid wall.

A dog might be able to understand the danger of the other side of that wall if the wall is not solid. Say, for instance a steel railing that has gaps between the rails.
