Re: BREAKING: EL HIERRO ERUPTS
It has been rumoured (not confirmed) in newspaper
that there is an submarine erruption...leaking gases...not the real erruption yet....

the leaking of gases will need to be confirmed and will be in some 3-4 hours from now.

But there is no doubt about situation has changed
I already knew that when i saw the 4.2 quake that is big sign of something to happen....

I haven't had so much sleep so i will take the time to rest now i live on spain mainland so I will be safe unless there is a megatsunami as of now there is no sign such will happen in this case..atleast as situation is now..

Btw, Real doom happens on 11 dates...so wait until 11 october to see some realy action...

Lets hope this not involve Spain and portugal mainland
those on El hierro should evacuate now
those at las palmas should be prepared...but as for now there is no sign that it will afect las palmas or tenerife for that mather...

Any more info?

What was the size of this Underwater Eruption?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2780968

"The Mayor of La Frontera (El Hierro), David Cabrera, confirmed in an interview on Radio iron Garoé that ‘underwater eruption’ is taking place about 900 metres beneath the sea surface five kilometres south of La Restinga. The eruption has been ongoing for four hours,"

Re: BREAKING: EL HIERRO ERUPTS

The displacement of the landslide material generates a 900 m high dome of water above the descending slide block after 2 minutes. From 10 to 20 minutes the neighboring Canary Islands have been inundated to several hundred meters height. The waves approach the Western Sahara over the next hour as waves 50-100 m stack together and sweep ashore (Ward and Day, 2001).

The effects of such a sudden event would be devastating, with the populations of the Canary Islands and the coastal areas of Africa decimated. In Europe and South America, warning time would be greater but likely still insufficient to evacuate the coastal areas. The most publicized effect of such a wave would be that on the Eastern seaboard of the United States. The tsunami would impact most coastal areas within 8 hours of La Palma's collapse. Even with the maximum warning time, it is highly unlikely that all areas at risk for inundation could be sufficiently evacuated. In some cases, the best escape may be vertical, with high rises in New York, Boston, and other port cities used to escape the rising waters.

Sorry to spoil your doom but the Tusnami threat you point out is for the volcano Cumbre Vieja on the island of La Palma. This volcano is on the island of El Hierro which is to the south of La Palma. Sorry but no doom today! Move Along Now!

It has not been confirmed yet it will be around 2-3 hours from now, Infrared technology will be used
but it quite likely it is confirmed and is only gases for now...

it is however a ongoing progress to watch out for

Re: BREAKING: EL HIERRO ERUPTS
IMPORTANT UPDATE 14:31 UTC : PEVOLCA has just published a Press Statement that it is still unsure that an eruption is going on in the Las Calmas Sea. Scientists of IGN which make part of the PEVOLCA committee have stated that IGN has recorded the emission of volcanic gases at the south side of the island. The committee stresses that the gases are NOT dangerous for the population.
Additionally IGN reported that the emission might also be an eruptive phase but at the present time there is no 100% proof for it. A certainty however, IGN reported, is that “purely volcanic harmonic tremors” have started.
At 7 PM (19:00) local time later today, a new report will be published with the latest results and conclusions of the scientists.

To our knowledge, Carmen Lopez, IGN, denies that release gases detected volcanic fluid and El Hierro, contrary to what the council says.

Re: BREAKING: EL HIERRO ERUPTS
I just would like to add that I am in Maine.
I live on the coastline and I look out every day and every night and watch the ocean/waves...

Last night I went out to enjoy the sunset and noticed this dead silence. Grey ocean-water and absolutely no movement whatsoever! Nothing! No waves...no nothing.

I have to say it was eerie

It reminded me of the saying..."The Quiet before the storm"

I also see it is exactly the same today as I write this.

I know I am far away from all this that could be happening, but could this effect the ocean as of now in any way?

I have never seen the ocean stop like this. Never!
