A team of researchers from the University of California in San Diego, USA, under the leadership of Ajit Varki, put forward a hypothesis about the genetic basis of human evolution. Based on observations of the interaction of the human immune system with molecules of sialic acid-containing gene Neu5Gc, researchers concluded, that the ancestors of modern humans, as a separate species, separated from other primate species due to the fact, that the immune system of ancient women began to destroy of spermatozoons, containing sialic acid molecules, which are carriers of various diseases and parasites.
