California: Governor Jerry Brown Signs Three Anti-Gun Bills into Law
On Sunday, California gun owners and sportsmen were dealt another blow when Governor Jerry Brown signed into law three anti-gun bills (AB 809, SB 819 and AB 144) and vetoed a fourth (SB 427) only because there is a pending lawsuit, according to his veto message on the bill. The Governor did sign one pro-gun bill (SB 610) into law.

Below is a description of each of the bills Governor Brown signed into law. AB 144 and SB 819 will take effect on January 1, 2012. AB 809 will take effect on January 1, 2014.

Assembly Bill 809 will require the registration of any newly purchased long guns. Not only does AB 809 violate Second Amendment rights by expanding California’s gun registry to include rifles and shotguns, it is also a huge waste of taxpayer money at a time when California is drowning in debt. Gun control advocates estimate the cost of this registration at $400,000, a number that is almost certainly far less than it will actually cost to implement and enforce this registry if enacted. The only value of registration is to help governments confiscate firearms in the future. To view Governor Brown’s signing message, click here.

The just need to take a look at Canada's long gun registry debacle to realize how fucking stupid and a waste of money these laws are.
Jerry Brown also signed a law removing parental consent from the Gardsil Vaccination program.
Looks like Jerry Brown has put a rather large kick me sign on his back.
Jerry Brown you are a scumbag.

Wonder how many of the gang members responsible for a lot of the gun violence legally purchase their guns? Guessing pretty much zero. These gun laws only effect law abiding citizens not the criminals.

Re: California: Governor Jerry Brown Signs Three Anti-Gun Bills into Law
Re; Gun control laws signed this past weekend. What can be done?

Over this past weekend, as you know, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a few new Bills into Law: one of which relates to gun control in public in the state of California. I am personally very confused, concerned, and worried on how this new law will affect the citizens of California.
Let me make my point, point being if the law says that no one is allowed to carry a handgun empty or loaded without a caused by California’s unfair concealed carry laws. The police can now safely assume that all hand guns are loaded... If a child or anyone, GOD FORBID, finds a handgun and shows it in public the police can legally shot to kill without any recourse. Now I would hope to assume that the officer of the law, would ask the person to lay down- through the weapon away, keep their hands up put their hands out the window of the vehicle…exc. My worried is what if the person due to lack of be able to understand can’t or won’t follow instruction... then at that point the officer decides his life or somebody’s life is at risk.. Then decides to fire and ask questions later. OR what if the officer does not the like/or thinks they are getting an attitude from the suspect and kills the suspect... There is/or will not be any recourse.
The effects is that we cannot guaranty that someone with a hand gun is going to understand the consequence of having even a BB gun, a look alike, or a gun that is as a movie prop; what’s to stop the Law enforcement (police, state troopers, or sheriff, or the security guard at the Bank/ public offices) from unload their weapon legally on someone who is just pretending to be like their favored movie star acting out a part.. We have a lot of (child-like-minded/mentally ill child like) who spend their free time playing video games with a hand gun toy prop … these people don’t know from reality due to having a protected life or mental disorder.
This thought has hunted me all week, the law enforcement already make this mistake now they don’t have to answer for the actions anymore.
I fear that Gov. Brown has made a huge mistake.
As we already have witnessed recently in the media the local law enforcement in beating to death a helpless/homeless/mentally ill person on the streets in Orange, Los Angeles, as well as other counties through out the state. The new hand-gun law hands over a Right 0f Way to law enforcement no question asked… Need we forget-it has taken two months for the Kelley Vs Only (Two Fullerton Police Officers) Case from the July4/5 bus station beating for murder charges to be filed because of law enforcement rights.. Now these type of officers will be in charge of a controlled arms law that gives them the right, rather than using their skills to make a proper decision when comforted by a person on the street.
What can be done?
Thank you for your time

This is true of almost every gun law. The criminals don't give a shit about the law, so all it does is impede and take more money out of the LAW ABIDING CITIZENS that need to defend themselves from criminals.

Laws were NEVER intended to stop crime. Thier only purpose is to establish how much cash they can take from you when you are caught, or how much cash they can take from the citizens to imprison you.

First let me say that I am a conservative Republican, NRA member and I am strongly pro-gun rights. I do not agree with Brown's actions, but I do understand where he is coming from.

Brown believes that the 2nd Amendment protects a personal right (in fact he filed a pro 2nd Amendment in the McDonald case and as AG ended persecution of law abiding gun owners). The problem is that he believes that it should be accorded what in constitutional law is called intermediate scrutiny. This means he believes that gun grabbing is off the table, but lessor regulation is OK.

The other problem he has is most people in California are strongly anti-gun. It was big news when he stated publicly that he owned guns, that this is normal and that people just needed to get over it.

The bottom line is that in this left wing state, Brown is about as pro-gun as we will ever get.

Bill by bill, here are the bottom lines:

Open Carry Ban: Brown was under a great deal of law enforcement pressure on this one. The other angle is that by signing this bill, he removes the excuse that courts have used to justify Sheriffs denying CCW permits. In fact, two cases are likely to be reversed on this basis. Brown is a good lawyer and knew very well that this would be the result.

SB 610 CCW Reform: Brown signed this NRA backed bill that prevents counties from requiring applicants to good through all the classes, etc (which can cost thousands), before being told if they have "Good Cause". Urban counties used this to discourage people from applying. Now they will be getting many more applications and will be subject to more law suits.

Long Gun Registration: First those out of state should understand that this registration is not like other states. Currently owned long guns do not have to be registered. There is no law against having an unregistered gun. As is currently done with handguns, the state will keep the information on long gun sales and transfers. They even made provisions for C&R 03FFLs (collectors) to continue to operate. Do I like it? NO WAY. Is it like Canada? Also, NO WAY. I'm sure Brown saw this as imposing no more of a burden than we already must endure when buying guns in this state. Furthermore, we may be able to overturn this because the appeals court ruled in Heller II that DC could register handguns - but not long guns.

SB427 Ammo Control Bill - This thing was written to try to get around a ruling against AB962 - a horrible bill signed by our RINO previous governor. Brown vetoed this bill, almost certainly because he thought it was unconstitutional. Of all the bills passed this year, this would have been the worst. Thank God he vetoed it.

The bottom line is that while Brown is not all we want, he is better than what we just had, and much better than our legislature.

Nope - we are not signing our rights away. Those of us on calguns.net are just fighting to win.

That means first, get the best Governor we can. The RINO Meg Whitman would have signed ALL THE BILLS.

Second, the bills we can't stop in the political arena, we fight in the courts.

That is how the hard working people at the CalGuns foundation got us the right to own ARs again and stopped the last ammo bill.

Tactics are important.

Finally me friend, you should thank God every day that you live in a state where your gun rights are respected and you do not have to make the choices we have to make.

All these people all over the internet talk about how "stupid" these laws and politicians are.

HELLLOOOOOOOOOO!??!!! WAKE THE FUCK UP...

They aren't stupid, everything is going according to plan.

If you were to look at a blueprint for how to destroy this country, you would see that these politicians aren't incompetent.... No, my friends, they are VERY competent.

They KNOW that these laws enable criminals...which is why they pass these "laws" (of which YOU have to consent*)

Which is why Calguns and the California Rifle and Pistol Association always have several lawsuits against the stupid laws that get passed here. Trust me, we object.

Guys, I have voted for exactly ONE Democrat in my life. I only voted for him because my choice was him of Meg Whitman - whose anti-gun campaign at eBay is well known.

If I have a choice between someone who will veto some gun laws, or some who will be happy to sign them all I will pick the one who will veto some gun laws every time.

I would rather fight two laws in the courts than three. And if the idiot Democrats are stupid enough to pass an open carry ban that even some gun control advocates warned them would result in "virtual shall issue" being ordered by the courts WHY SHOULD WE STOP THEM. Remember loaded open carry has been illegal for decades here, we are talking about trading unloaded open carry for a court order from the federal courts that compels our sheriffs to recognize simple "self-defense" as good cause.

Again, if you are blessed to live in a state that actually recognizes the constitution BE GRATEFUL. But please don't be so quick to slam those of us on the front lines of the gun rights movement.
