Before you tell yourself it just a different SCENE, remember it's just different from what you've SEEN! Love is our true destiny. I'll tell you this: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1675397 you better man up. do you have any tips and tricks for someone before they venture out do you have any epic stories . how many bandits did you come across in your travels Lol, I could write a book about it. Many bandits out there. Many sick, sick people living homeless, also some very enlightened individuals. There may be honor among thieves, but there is no betrayal without trust. Do not ever show any other homeless people your area. For that matter, you don't have to hang out with them, or even look like you are homeless yourself. I actually hand-built a little 8x8 shack, insulated, stove, bed, the outside was chain link fence I rolled up and carried up the mountain, I thatched it with pine branches, it was awesome, wood floor too. Clean up after yourself. Feed the birds. Learn to be hungry, it will make your food taste incredible. I had a membership at the YMCA, I worked two jobs, saved all my money, nobody had a clue, now I am doing quite well for myself 2 years later. |

Mind you there are no elephants roaming around here but that's not the point. :) I'd rather die. And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it." Amen. |

I bet it was cold The trees start to pop at around 15 below 0 when any residual water in the trunks freeze and wind torques them. I woke up many nights with my blankets frozen to the floor. One night it was so cold I went to take a drink from my water bottle, but not only was the water frozen, my lips froze to the bottle too. I was laughing though. ![]() |

| Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 2467709 10/11/2011 11:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dumpster diving and existing on plants don't seem to co-mingle. Unless you are like nature dumpster diving. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3129051 well i plan to have my 'home camp' of sorts in the woods and then venture into town to dive in the dumpsters for edible/useful goods. i figure the edible plants will be more supplementary; i'll mainly subsist from the dumpsters. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1675397 10/11/2011 11:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i have some more questions . . what did you eat? -- did YOU dumpster dive/eat edible plants. also who owned the property where you lived, and did you ever have confronations with the owners (police, park rangers, whatever). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2467709 Some diving, some food at work, some foraging. I don't know exactly who owned the property, it was several hundred feet up a small mountain, not easy to get to. Cops came up looking twice, both times they walked within 30 feet of me and my place while I just sat there watching them like Rambo. It was kinda cool actually. I did meet some winos and the like at the bottom of the hill one night, I told them I had strung rusty fishhooks on piano wire in the trees + a few other things to keep them scared, none of it true at all, but kept them from trying to even get near my place. |
| RS User ID: 1291163 10/12/2011 12:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't do it. Your health will be dumpster diving. If you want to be a bum, then be a beach bum. But learn how to fish and how to cook fish; be legal with a fishing license for that particular state. Now is a bad time to experience what you wish to experience. Wait until it is warmer. Don't carry a large knife, or you will go to jail for possession of a concealed weapon along with vagrancy charges. Don't loose your life simply because you are not prepared. You will need Food, Shelter, Clothing and a place to use the bathroom and to clean up. You may not live through such an experience. The wrong kind of people can and will see what your situation is, and if they think they can prosper momentarily in life, they won't mind taking your life in order to do it. Don't do it my friend, it's not an experience that everyone lives through, especially if they are a loner. |

Obtaining enough calories is going to be very difficult. There is a great sense of freedom and I understand completely about being a wageslave. I have experience being homeless but not living as a woodsman. You may love it. |
