I think there are super bugs in the hospital resistant to antibiotics. Get an infection and you are a goner. Also, there are things like babesia in many peoples blood that might be used for a transfusion. Some of these bacteria and viruses are new and cannot be detected so if you get a blood transfusion then you will probably die.

There used to be a web site www.doctorsmakemesick.com but I think it was taken down by the AMA. They make me sick.

When the elderly break a bone they frequently develop blood clots, the clots tend to traverse the body and end up causing one of three conditions all three are likely to result in death.

Pulmonary Embolism, Cardiac Arrest, Deep Arterial Stroke

If you're very very lucky, before you know it, you'll know why.

They go to the hospital...

Oh, and the reason they break a bone? They take prescribed medications for years and years. Most hips break, then they fall, not fell and broke a hip.

Should have and ate right.

May because they're old and the fractured bone is coincidental.

also, when they heal slowly and are often bedridden

this can easily lead to pneumonia

Because their immune system is depleted they cant fight off infection as well.
Although ive known some old people who are fighting fit you could break both their legs and they would still get up at 80.

I read where they dont fall and brake it, the bone brakes then they fall, some heal and go home , my Mom was 84 and she healed and went home but died 6 months later, I think it is just so hard on their body , it tries to heal, and of course old people dont have much energy and it is just to hard on it. A young bone heals so fast. Nature just never intended humans to live to be that feble and old.

Re: Why do old people all die after breaking a bone?
I've heard that when an elderly person "falls and fractures a hip" (can be common, especially in women who suffer from worse bone-thinning with age than men) that it is actually the bone broke spontaneously, which then led to the falling down. The recuperation period at that age must really take a lot out of a person. They often end up in convalescent care during a long recovery, and may never get back to what they were doing or the level of activity. I think this affects them in many ways.

also fat embolism released from the fracture site. many end up with a foley catheter and get a urinary tract infection that leads to person getting septic.
