Re: I'm think of full time camper living
It's a great idea. Done it, it's more than doable, and brings ALOT of peace, quiet, and time to think your own thoughts and begin to live life according to your own imagination.

Does pay to remember, though, that Hitler rounded up the Gypsies, too! hf

Read this first, for a wake-up call, to make sure you fully know what you're getting into.

I was able to check this out from the library. Most libraries have inter-library loan. Please see my review:

Because of the inherent problems of homesteading, we've decided to form a group first.

Re: I'm think of full time camper living
You can get around building codes. Trailers don't need them.

Another idea: look around for an older single wide mobile home. You can get them for next to nothing, search for "must be moved". Look into investing in a proper septic tank and well though.

in fact, look around for some rural land with a condemned house, or a house that's falling down or burnt. Often you can buy land like that for less than if it was empty, and you get the bonus of already having things like a driveway, well, septic, etc. Burn up or get rid of the house (call the local fire department, they often would like to have a "practice" house).

I'm actually doing the above: bought some land cheap where a house used to be and am moving a used mobile there. I'll be debt free and self sustaining (almost) next year.

Interesting. I own a 1997 Winnebago that I have in storage right now. Perfect to live in. Maybe it will come in good use soon?

Re: I'm think of full time camper living
How about a camper parked under a canopie, then wrap the sides with used black billboard tarps (draws heat in the winter).

Inside, line with two rows of straw bales. Another two rows on the roof of the RV. In a year or two the straw spoils, when you'd use it in your garden.

Result: super insulated for about $2000. Protects the RV from UV damage and weather. I have no idea if this is fire safe.

Re: I'm think of full time camper living
I'm all for you doing this! blah blah blah pFFT, building codes, there are ways if you live in a not so rural area as well.

My father got tires, by the trailer loads from the city. They would pay him $1each to take them away. He found a hillside, dug it out, stacked tires & filled w/ the dirt. The money he got for taking the tire was enought to pay for chicken fencing & stucco.

I've seen a home built out a straw bales with stucco.

I've seen all to many shacks of all sorts, anything is possible.

The best route these days seems to be converting a cargo container, they are cheap & portable so no bother w/ codes + great security from nature or man! I am planning on an add on next spring using a cargo container...

This guy built a warm, light, dry house inside a hill fourty years ago for $50 in Northern Idaho. It's still a fine place to live, even without heat.

LOL, Yeah my landlord is doing just that.
He owns (Is buying) 2 houses and one vacant parcel all next to each other. He's renting the houses and living in a trailer on the empty parcel. He makes enough rental income to make his payments and go have fun (right now he's in Cabo on his yearly fishing trip). It really makes me think.. What is more important, 2 weeks of vacation every year, or Direct TV and an Iphone?

I knew a vegan in NM that bought a cheapo chunk of land, an acre for 500 bucks! but it was a cliff face & 8500'. He worked for 4 years w/ hand tools and a decent jack hammer, he now has one sweet home in a cave, fully off grid...

anything is possible

I've seen plenty of hoop-houses, I haven't seen anyone living in one. Link? Or pic? Or details? I can't imagine they're warm or durable.

Ok, as to9 the hoop-house..

It is not uncommon for people, families, illegals to live in these outside towns down south...

Durable, one can make mods...
I saw an abandoned hoop-house concreate dome, looked like basic hoop frame made of long rebar, thenscrap wood all over it, then concrete to finish, this looked to be 40yrs old & was still standing...

I don't have a link, I have seen this in person & I'm not out to prove this to you, cause honestly, I don't care what you or anyone else online thinks :)

This post is on the OP considering camper style living, not the existance of people living in hoop-houses or not...

Yeah I agree. Sounds like you're defensive. I believe you, I just wanted details in case I'd like to do the same hf

I can see a hoop house being a much cheaper version of my canopy/straw bale superinsulation as I posted earlier.
