One more thing. While in Israel I met with a Palestinian in Jerusalem. I told him that I was wanting to visit the Gaza strip. Do you know what he told me? He said "I strongly suggest that you don't go there because you may be kidnapped and/or killed."

Anonymous is just a name that's used for different purposes by different people. The name itself originated from an online imageboard called 4chan, along with its spin-offs 7chan, 420chan, 6chan, etc.

The current "Anonymous" tag is being used by the Occupy Wall Street protestors as a throwback to when the same group of annoying pretentious assholes jumped on the "Chanology" bandwagon against the religion Scientology, which the Anonymous of that time was "raiding."

Chanology was the downfall of Anonymous, when Anonymous went from a group of sociopathic teens and young adults into a bunch of hipster college students that wanted to change the world.

The current Anonymous is an amalgamation of people from Reddit, Flickr, Tumblr, and a silent minority of 4chan. In fact, the large posting majority of 4chan disapproves of Occupy Wall Street, as in their eyes it turns Anonymous into a joke.

Obvious biblical connotations of the old catchphrase "We are Legion" aside, Anonymous used to be about doing cruel and uncouth things under the guise of anonymity just for fun.

Today it is used for any new annoying pretentious cause that comes out of the internet. Any mention of Occupy Wall Street on 4chan is often met with image spamming and "saging." (Saging is a function of the imageboard derived from the Japanese word Sageru, which means to "lower down." It posts in the thread but does not bump it.)
