My favs at that age were George and the Giant Peach, Charlotttes Web, Beautiful Joe, Wizard of Oz, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women and on and on. Yes, I read a lot as a child.

i read a lot of non fiction, always have, but i like fiction sometimes also, and at that age i was reading a lot of hardy boys books, lol.

books with role models that suit and reinforce the intrinsic nature of the individual child so that they can get some positive definition of who they are and an idea on how that sort of person can lead happy fulfilling adventerous life.think about the kids your buying for,the genre that suits their temperament, then do a it of reading yourself.if you like it ,they probably will too.if their smart, people like neil gaiman who write specific cross over type stuff will lead them into deeper reading or else choose a classic, that's why their classsics.kipling and twain.nuff said.
