Question??? do geese or ducks fly at night?
Does anyone know? Last night around 10 PM I let my dogs out for their last potty time before bed, and I heard ducks or geese flying over my house, I don't think this is normal is it? I sure have never noticed this before. Has anyone ever noticed this? Just wondering so thought I would ask. Hmmm???

I've heard geese a lot at night over the past year. Definitely a regular thing near me.

duck/goose hunter here. Yes they will especially on a well lit night.

We hate a full moon and clear skies because the ducks arent as eager to get up and move around at sunrise.

Geese will fly at night quite a bit, especially this time of year.

They have certain places they will stop for food, rest, etc. A lot like how we plan breaks and meals for a road trip. I love to goose hunt, you will remember some odd ball or funny marked geese from year to year at the exact same spot. I always wonder if they remember the odd ball in orange that doesn't shoot from year to year. :)

Re: Question??? do geese or ducks fly at night?
As the other people have said, yes, it's quite common, especially this time of year when they are migrating.

I heard my first group of the year last night. Couldn't see them, but could hear them. A cold front was pushing through (High yesterday about 80, today in the 50's and cold rain) and the geese were flying south ahead of it. Every time a cold front comes through this time of year it pushes more flocks south.

Geese are amazing. Think about the navigation skills they have. Think of the altitude they must be flying at when they are so high they are just a V shape of specs in the sky.

Saw a great "UFO" a few years back...

Quite late at night arriving at my mum's house, which was on the edge of town so quite dark. I glanced up and saw a V shape of faint pulsing lights slowly crossing the sky. My first impression was that they were very high, and moving very fast.

Then a "honk-honk" brought me back to earth as I realised it was geese migrating, and reflecting the lights from the town, pulsating as they flapped their wings.

Still, it looked like an alien invasion fleet for a few seconds cool2
