Its just a like a dirty bathroom.
The crap keeps getting added up but the house person will not notice. Everyday the bathroom keeps getting dirty, and nobody who stays there will notice it. Until one day a guest walks in and 'wow! why is your bathroom so filthy??'
Stagnant societies are like that. Barricaded from outside influence, there is no air passing by, and slowly but surely the society morphs into something inhumane.
So inhumane, that a dying two year old child is ignored. This is morphing of the mind into something else.
But living inside China, you will not notice it.
Far from being horrified, they like OP above, will only defend it.
