What a mess. All because some jackass wanted to keep wild animals that he was not equipped to take care of. Sad for all, I'm sure the LE didn't enjoy shooting the animals.

THIS IS REPORTER TONYA SHIPLEY WHO IS REPORTING ON TWITTER FEED...

Tonya Shipley: From an Oct 2010 Times Recorder story on Terry Thompson being sentenced on gun charges:

U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley looked as if he was struggling Friday morning with exactly what sentence to give a Zanesville man who pleaded guilty to two federal counts of possessing illegal firearms.

Marbley finally decided on sentencing Terry Thompson, 62, to one year and one day in federal prison, ordered him to be on house arrest for a year after his release. In addition, he was ordered to complete 208 hours of community service, either working with children or animals, within a year of his release.

Thompson entered guilty pleas to the federal charges in April and faced up to 10 years in prison.

But Marbley told Thompson before sentencing that he had to weigh the seriousness of the crime and Thompson's background and personal history.

Thompson was charged after agents with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms served a search warrant at Thompson's home on Kopchak Road in 2008. At that time, the ATF seized 133 weapons and a small amount of ammunition. Thompson's conviction centered on eight of those guns -- five fully automatic firearms and three short-barreled firearms without serial numbers. Thompson was formerly a gun dealer who did not renew his license several years ago.

Marbley did eject one other gun from the case Friday, a Japanese gun that was manufactured to shoot flares. Marbley disagreed with Assistant U.S. Attorney David Bosley, who along with an agent from the ATF, told Marbley the gun could be fitted to shoot 12-gauge shotgun shells.

Thompson, who despite having a broken right arm in a sling, stood at attention, said the gun, a souvenir from his father from World War II, along with another gun, were antiques and were meant as heirlooms that eventually would be passed to a nephew.

The guns were discovered in a storage chest in the basement of Thompson's home the day ATF served the warrant. They had been taken from Thompson's father's home before the home was demolished two years ago.

Marbley said it came as a surprise to him that Thompson has a history of being a businessman, a pilot and a Vietnam veteran.

"You've essentially been a law-abiding citizen," Marbley said. "You seem to be a very intelligent, which may have got you into this trouble."
 Quoting: WhiteLight

What is curious about this is that he was a dealer who had failed to renew his license. It almost seems like they had other problems with him but this was the only thing they could effectively charge him with. Typically, i think they would have just made him renew the license or hand over the guns.

Also, he had ver little ammo. A gun without ammo is just a hunk of metal & wood, making it a rather clumsy club at best.

More than meets the eye here.
 Quoting: Jane Smith

I am beginning to think that same thing.. lots not quite right about this story.. I will proceed with more investigation.. also he kind of seemed like a caring guy why would he ever let his beloved animals out to be slaughtered by law enforcement? Then kill himself..He was not that old.. maybe a little to conservative for the local Animal Rights organization or Gun Haters? Very suspicious indeed!

Outside the box, one wonders if this was a private contractor caring for animals involved in "experiments" that wouldn't want the spotlight thrown upon them as it might be if in official laboratories and listed on experimental protocols.

Black Budget is certainly huge enough for such to be occurring.

A little further outside the box, one wonders if the animals were infected with something, or if they were hyper-intelligent mutated animals?

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but it was the owner that was so cruel!!! In "getting even" and opening the cages he signed their death warrant. The one's in cages, it stated, would be going to the zoo. Had he left the others in the cages, I'm positive they would be too. He is a cruel selfish man who can burn in hell as far as I'm concerned. He had no care for any innocents (like children) that could have been harmed at the least, killed and eaten. Fuck YOU Terry, you selfish bastard. You killed many innocents and could have killed even more!

"Summary: Here is where we stand - two animals still on the loose - a monkey and wolf."

They'll never be caught. The monkey and the wolf have been training together. The monkey is going to ride the wolf north, and change wolves in Wyoming, where the wolf is going to pick up a badger and go east. The wolf is going to dye his hair and assume the identity of a German Shepard, using the badger as a cover story that they are filming a Disney adventure, while the monkey is going to shave and run in the Democrat Congressional primary in North Dakota, where he'll win.

Well, let me explain. Not EVERYTHING is a conspiracy. I'll tell you a little story. I bought a farm one summer and because it was run down (great price) it had weeds as tall as I was. We did clear the weeds and then saw crap I've never seen in my life. I live in Colorado of all places and had small children at the time. We bagan to see snakes, one as large as 6-8 foot long and as big around as my arm. After befriending a lady, she explained. The guy that rented the little house about an 1/8 mile down the road, rented it only for his (over 50) snakes. He had to move from the little town we lived at, to the city, so he let them all GO!!!!
#1- Made himself feel better to free them, BUT he was a snake guy and had to KNOW that most would die. Hmmm, must be an offshoot of PETA type person.
#2 He gave no concern to any of his neighbors. He was irresponsible to say the least. He could have harmed ANYONE of us, like my children or my livestock. I can't be more shocked as to the number of exotic snakes that lived and were roaming my place. We did clean the farm up immediately but they must have lived between his place and ours as they were vacant for some time. He got the animals, HE was responsible for them!
I believe Mr. Terry was concerned with himself. I also believe in order to say FUCK YOU he cared for no other life. He is welcome to fry as far as I'm concerned. Too many have been harmed and many more could have been. I know you all think the police were wrong... maybe. BUT even HANNA said there wasn't another way to ensure more would not be harmed. Sad, let's quit looking for excuses and call the real responsible party exactly what he is... a MONSTER!

I told my husband last night, I bet the guy was either militia or a vet and that ATF went after his guns.

If he was under house arrest, how could he get to the animals to care for them? Perhaps he figured with no one to care for them, he may as well turn them loose and without any of his former life left, he turned the gun on himself, or did he?
 Quoting: farmergirl

""In the summer of 2010, an animal caretaker was killed by a bear at a property in Cleveland. The caretaker had opened the bear's cage at exotic-animal keeper Sam Mazzola's property for a routine feeding.
Though animal-welfare activists had wanted Mazzola charged with reckless homicide, the caretaker's death was ruled a workplace accident. The bear was later destroyed.
This summer, Mazzola was found dead on a water bed, wearing a mask and with his arms and legs restrained, at his home in Columbia Township, about 15 miles southwest of Cleveland.""

There is way more to this than is being spoon-fed to the public. Sounds like a hit to me. What else is known about this guy, besides that he was a Vietnam vet and owned exotic guns and animals? Where did all his money come from? What were his views on conspiracy?

The photo of the dead animals is worse than heart-breaking. All I can say is that they're in a better place now. A zoo was crap for them, running loose in Zany-ville was crap for them. But they should NEVER have been taken out of the wild or bred in captivity. BOYCOTT ALL ZOOS!

I don't think that they would have buried the animals on the site they fell....it might have been your back yard...how would you feel about that?

As to tranquilizing them...Do you have any conception of the time and manpower needed to do that? They do not just drop over when they are hit -- like you see on those wildlife shows. The dose would have to be calculated on the animals weight and metabolism. Do you think the had all the data to do that?

Maybe your heart is in the right place on that, but you brain is seriously lacking.
How would you feel about it if one of your family was out and about in the area?

Lacking the resources and ability to tranquilize, suppose they put it off and did it when they could. Would you feel safe with these critters running loose for several days?
Just call a halt to everyday life while you, your children and your pets stay in the house. And how about those who have livestock that needs tending? And how about the livstock itself? OK to let them become Lion's dinner?

People should not be allowed to keep any animal that normally lives in the wild.

You know it's shit like this that pisses me off! It's really no wonder that a 2 year old can be ran over with no human reaction ensuing. It makes my blood boil and sickens me to the core!

I have since moved to the mountains (work) and we have a liberal rag delivered monthly (reminds me to call them and let them know I will not tolerate their taking a progressive shit on my doorstep every month). Anyway, I didnn't realize which "free" paper I was reading and read one of the articles in it. It was about a guy who was disapproving of a rancher who had shot a mountain lion (midair) as it was attacking a child. The articles author said he had ran into a mountain lion and began hollering and screaming and when his friends showed up the lion left. WELL, he went on to say that had the mountain lion eaten him he would have felt HONORED. What kind of shit is this????!!!

C'mon, where's the in-between common sense. Go look up mountain lion attacks, they are few, but when it happens people can be eaten. Are we really such progressives that we have to feel "honored" to have a mountain lion eat us? People are fuckin idiots. How about, they maintain their distance (which used to be instinct before the progressive mindset ruled the world and the fall out that has happened from their "ways") and we live and let live.

DO I REALLY HAVE TO OFFER UP MY 4 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER AND BE HONORED?

No, we can live together and not step over our natural lines. Once a lion steps over it's bounds, say at my door (and believe me, as a real rancher, animals "used" to know the difference) I WILL take it out. I am not so communist as to value the life of the lion ABOVE that of my human grandbaby. People used to coexist with common sense, no it's overboard either way. Most the time nothing died. Makes me sick, stupidity really is a killer.

May I ask why the man cared no more for those animals than to cage them for his own self interest? WHY did he let them go with no concern for any of those poor beast OR the HUMANS (I know most people don't care about the latter anymore) that could be hurt? Truly, what a selfish person.

No, his actions in caging those aniumals tells me "who" he was, so no, I believe he did do it.

Common sense, it's so lacking.
