Always the little guy who suffers!Hope them guys in Washington that could in no way consider higher taxes for the rich are proud of themselves!

(No food off their plate!)

Thousands of other inmates in the Texas prison system have been eating fewer meals since April after officials stopped serving lunch on the weekends in some prisons as a way to cut food-service costs...

and why do we (taxpayers) care if criminals are fat dumb and happy?

just because they're prisoners doesn't mean they don't deserve to be fed.

Many of these people can't afford canteen, in which case they would have to go from 8am till 5 or 6 pm without any food. Thats 10 hours.

I'm sorry, I think thats just plain wrong.

There is no harm in going 8-10 hours without food. People eat way too much in general anyway. We have really screwed up ideas about how often we need to eat. In my opinion this is a perfectly good policy - no one needs to eat more than twice a day anyway. Has nothing to do with them being prisoners - just, the fact is, breakfast and dinner is plenty of food.

But seriously... After posting I thought of all the starving and suffering people around the world and I try to keep an open mind... but I still for some reason think this is still just plain wrong.

This is America,

And it also seems that as long as the budget cuts don't affect the people that matter then them budgets are ok to cut...

I can understand your point. For example, when Congress meets, you think they go without lunch? Not a chance. I do see your point there.

Basically I think the United States should drop "lunch," period. What a waste of time and food. Oh well, what can ya do?

Before you go off the deep end on fleecing the “rich” for more taxes please consider that most American, do not even pay income taxes what so ever. Further, the little guys you speak so fondly of have raped, robbed, maimed or killed to attain their present jail cell accommodations.

Next, consider other circumstances currently happening in California specifically that now states that any contractor hired in the state must be union workers or draw union salaries.

Gov. Brown in his lack of wisdom will be releasing 26,000 prisoners in the near future to help with California’s ever-growing deficit and with this added stupidity Gov Brown will keep his decreasing police force busy.

I posted this a few days ago:
Thread: Tic-Tock - California's Governor Brown Delivers for Labor Unions

California's Governor Brown Delivers for Labor Unions

According to Katy Grimes of the Sacramento-based investigative reporting website Cal Watchdog for October 19, "For unions, Governor Jerry Brown is the governor who keeps on giving." Over the weekend, the California Governor signed into law Senate Bill 922, which will prevent cities from banning union-supported “project labor agreements” that force contractors to hire union workers if they want to bid on public projects.

Calif. prison system begins issuing layoff notices

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Friday began issuing 26,000 layoff-warning notices as the prison system prepares to adjust to a new law that shifts lower-level offenders to county jails.

It's my understanding that other prisons hand out a brown paper sack with their breakfast. The sack contains a sandwich and a piece of fruit. Then the prisoners don't see the cafeteria until dinner time.

Why not do something like that. Having prisoners make some PB and J sandwiches can't be that expensive.

You on the other hand should lighten up a bit...

We have more prisoners in America than any other country in the world (per capita.)

Not saying that they didn't do wrong, but, in many instances their punishments are far too harsh. Especially considering how many people that we consider "normal" or "upstanding" citizens in reality many times commit the same crimes but are not condemned for them because they just didn't get caught.

For christs sakes its common knowledge George Jr did cocaine. If he were any of us and got caught with it in his possession more than once he would have done time too.

And he was our President!!
