it means the arrival of a strong cme with a sudden climb in protons. I will go look, I have been feeling this and looking all morning.

Depending on the magnitude it means anything from a blip on the chart to loss of power.

no its when the proton hit is sudden rather than gradual and so far its sudden but does not look large yet, already dropping but we shall watch it. some cme's arrive big time blast, others not. with the sudden Impulse, it tends to be very sort lived with no or temporary wind increase, its here and gone in a very short time.

you see now the wind and proton rise at the same time which is typical. If you look at the previous image available of the pressure image, it was light blue and the next image is white. that is SUDDEN and thus the name.

It usually takes some 20 minutes from the warning is issued till they observe it at the Earth (this warning is based on observations by the satellites)

yes that is the purpose of ACE in the first place which is 1 million miles out. It gives advance warning around communications actually thru the ionosphere.

nope but the sudden impulse does temporarily open the magnetosphere very suddenly thus the sudden bz drop out that occurs with it which is evident on nict right now. this doesn't look like a big one at all.


On here [link to www2.nict.go.jp] you see the ingress made, as these satellites for this data stream are very close to earth, and thus prove the INGRESS of the solar storm which is just showing right now. we will have to wait and see if more is coming or not, as to this blast.

that is just what I posted about above, this is the NATURE of the SUDDEN impulse, which so far has dropped to bz to nearly -20, which is what is showing up on the ae index I posted above from nict.

I am wondering if this one is the smaller and first of the 3 cme's off the sun a couple days ago that showed on stereo. the others should not hit us, unless that really big one, we are getting an edge of it now. Hard to tell.

I have been watching the HI 2 images, as the ahead one showed quite a bit of energy blasting yesterday . this is yesterdays link, its clear there and I wonder if earth might catch a bit of that one HI 2 images are the gray ones. [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

and you can see what is left from the link above I posted for yesterday. this might be what we are in. these are of course 2d images and just because earth is on them, doesn't mean earth is in this massive cme blast show on there yesterday and in fact the day before. Let me get the day before, brb. I will edit.

so many people now observing this stuff and learning which is wondrous for those interested.:its all good:

it is 2 days ago now. that's why I posted the images from the 22nd. these can hit in from 1 to 5 days depending on ejection speed and intervening space conditions and some that seem big wag out and never hit, or just make a little bump. Just have to wait and see each time what will prevail.

so wheres the EQ at.. shouldnt there be one ?

if there is one you have to give it a little time to manifest from the energies, the quakes are never simultaneous with the impulse and no quake could result also.

yes I think this was a quicky and its over. I just voted a pin because this thread should be seen so those interested can have a glimpse at the sudden impulse. I will put the link in my solar quake thread so that my readers can visit here. I don't want to repeat it all there.

If there is a connection, I don't think it happens BAM! on shock front passage.

Hm, I´ve observed when it´s high white pressure like this, the seismic activity is quite low on the other hand.

Last days when the EG hit, it was all blue, no pressure.
