These are corrupt lobbyist scumbags.

Being in a Union has little to nothing to do with it.

It says they were lobbyists, they just used some loophole in the law to be able to get a teachers pension as they probably would make out better than something from the private sector.

The public sector is wealthy. Lobbyists(above all people) know this, and their job is to take advantage of it.

Don't be blinded by the petty bullshit politics of the same old same old.

They were not substitute teachers, and substitute teachers WOULD NEVER get a full pension for a single day of teaching, because they would be doing years of service.

Both of these lobbyists devoted their careers to skirting the law, and winning political favor with powerful people.

Calling them substitute teachers in your headline, and having some off in left field rant about unions makes this thread loose a lot of credibility, that goes for the article too.

Even though I seemed to have understood the content much better than you did.

any sub teacher under age 63 is most likely not going to see a dime of any pensions , the state will declare bankruptcy and void out all those contracts , so who cares ?

Wow! Why can I never get one of those jobs? LOL!

This is the AFT..American Federation of Teachers union. There are two unions in Illinois. This is the one for the corrupt Chicago group.

This is about lobbyists not teachers.

Clearly you do not understand what a lobbyist is and does for any given organization.

You use the buzzword "Union thugs" but you disagree with them being lobbyists?

The article says that is what they are.

Lobbyists work against the law as a profession. THat is what they do, of course they would find some loophole to squeeze themselves into a big pension.

The point you are trying to make is driven by nothing but shallow ideological boundaries and name calling.

To hell with the facts right? If it is a chance to shed some tears about some political stump speech issue you might as well have a good old fashioned cry and not talk about the actual facts.

The above is why America is quickly losing hope. None of you can read into an issue far enough before blurting out your teams sloganeering.

You will never fix your problems if you are unable to see them.

This is incorrect.

My wife is a substitue teacher in district 203, Illinois.
Last school year she subbed for 22 days.
This year, she has subbed for 4 day to date.

She will NOT get any pension for this. Ever.

I don't know where that story came from, nor do I know where they got that info from, but "Subs" are NOT eligible for pensions in Illinois. Never have, never will.

It wasn't because the were just subs. It was because they did Union things for teachers. Union work + subbing + lobbying got them into this narrow window to grab some pension.

My first experience with absurdaty of unions was my first job when I was still in high school. I worked for a contruction company. Once I was told to take apart a cement form and I was using my hammer to pull out the nails when I was stopped by a union thug who told me that anything involving a hammer had to be done by the carpenter union. So my work had to stop until they found a "carpenter" to pull out the nails with a claw hammer.

That's my experience. They let you blow off steam by filing a grievance, but then they do nothing about it.

Gotta have them, though. Without unions we'd all be making $1.25 per hour. The employers have all the power. How much do you think Walmart would pay if they weren't under threat of being unionized?
