thanks ra for posting the above, it all rings so true. the books got sent today. i have my own findings that are virtually identical to the last paragraph above. 36 (6*6) sacred plains/houses making up 6 realms, 6 dimensions on 3 levels (12 plains/houses per level). can't wait to compare the rest of the numbers!

The spider families and Waitaha

The ancient ancestors made a pact with the spider families that they would be looked after in gratitude to them looking after us in our sometimes desperate times of need.

The elders also observed the great effort that was carried out by the web builder to have the exact proportions replicated in the entire web. This gave the very small taura or web line its tremendous engineered strength. In many circumstances when our people produced fine nets to catch the smaller fish, like the inanga, they utilised the structural design of the web, and as a consequence, were very successful in most of their mahinga kai forays.

In the case of our youth to be married, the spider grandmothers would recommend the union of two individuals who could bring and give the pattern the required genetic strengths that could then be developed into the great mokopuna, pool of the nation. These unions were purely and simply the nation's pattern makers addressing the need of capturing and combining the neccessary genetic material that was required for the creation of the best possible strengths from the two individuals that would go forward into the future for the benefit of the nation.

Sometimes the resulting individual mokopuna would create the needed pattern that would create stronger patterns in the future. In some cases they created combined genetic strains that brought sorrow to the grandmothers. These cases were quickly allowed to devolve over the natural life span.

The mokopuna with the required patterns were eagerly sought out by the teaching elders. It was recongnised that the greater pattern maker was always there in the creation process to help in the fashioning of the next knowledge keepers.

The mokopuna of the puna and the mokopuna of the moko were two distinctly different yet similar grandchildren. One was to care for the spirng of the nation and the other to care for the pattern of the nation. These two grandchildren would be later in life named the Mareikura and whatukura of the Whare Wananga of Waitaha.

The people of the spider, Ngai Pungawerewere, were the customary, traditonal keepers of all the whakapapa in Waitaha. These were the individuals who carried the greater memory capacity either through training in the Whare wananga, through genetic grandmother arrangements, or both.

These were the mokopuna teachers who would sit down with the nation, and starting from the glimmer in the sky of the first light, would relate the whakapapa of all the universe sensed, seen and present, from the dark of the night, to the glimmer of light in the universe, into the brightest of lights, then the slow shadow of the beckoning darkness of the night, into the darkness of resting again.

It was their total live's work to remember the names of individuals that linked the names of groups that made the names of the collective what they are today. In the beginning is the old pattern of the sound of the name, the continuous sound of creation, the form, the identity, and then the reality of the nation's universe, Te Wa, Te Ao, Te wao. The responsibility of keeping the threads of moko patterns was given to the grandmothers of the Ngai Pungawerewere to hold forever, to keep the tomo records, thus enabling the nation to be one of constantly renewing strength and vitality. To this end, the grandmother spider family would be acutely aware of all the possibilities and probabilities of the genetic risks, and would do their utmost to elimminate as many of these risks as was possible.

With this thought, our elders created the guardianship of the Pungawerewere. They became the invisible ears, eyes and voice of the Wananga. The grandmothers saw that the spider's web was a great lesson in the crafting of the patterns. They saw that the spider web was known as the Taura Iho, which when woven into the snare, kupenga, of the web, became the Whare Kupenga, the different species of spiders who build different houses, and these names, along with others, fully describe the houses or traps, hinaki, that the spiders weave. Some build separate houses for their eggs, and these were called Nga Kohunga Puwere.

The written moko of this particular people of Waitaha nation was represented with the body and head of the person, with the hands and legs put into the creeping positon of the spider. This moko would be inscribed onto all those places where the whakapapa would be taught to the selected tauira, and these signs state quite clearly to everyone to stay away. The elders of Waitaha did not put great store in chance, and steadfastly believed in helping with the universal plan and pattern. They did this to such an extent that all individuals within the Waitaha nation were as important in the total scheme of things as were the sun, the moon, the stars.

For without the individual, the creation miracle brought into being by the spoken word of our Creator, the rest of the universe, that was given to this created individual as a garden for the gaining of great knowledge and the pursuit of peace, love and safety, did not have any reason for being.

The Fairy Folk.

The peoples of Northern Europe need not "lay the flattering unction to their souls" that they have any monopoly of fairies and fairy tales, for "the little folk" have ranged over many lands, though they are more frequently associated with forests—deep, dark and impenetrable. Such, of course, was New Zealand as the first-comers from Hawaiki found it, except that on the shores of the North Island the glorious pohutukawa formed a beautiful fringe to the dark green mantle of the land.

There were giants in the land as well as fairies, for Te Otane, a son of Te Maha, was of such gigantic proportions that four ordinary men could get inside his belt (tatua), whilst the weapon he carried, called a maipi, was so ponderous that it took two men to carry it. The tale is quite as true as those in some of the works of Herodotus, Homer, or Virgil, whilst the story of Te Otane and his maipi is as likely to be as true as that respecting Polyphemus, whose staff was a pine tree.

But it is not of the giants of Old Wairoa but the little folk, the fairies, of whom I would write. Tuhoeland, now better known, perhaps, as the Urewera country, lying to the north-west of Waikaremoana, was once populated by a fair-skinned race of Maoris—at all events they had fairer skins than the Maoris of to-day, and many of them had a wealth of red hair. The whole territory was not only thickly populated by the people who were driven back from the coast, but page 58it was also inhabited by many gods, taniwhas by the legion, enchantment, mystery, and magic, overshadowing all as the mists overshadow Huia-rau.

Even to-day the Tuhoe folk speak of what they called the Tangata Whenua (the race of men that dwelt in this little region), a smaller, much more gentle, and fair-skinned people called the "Patu-pai-arehe," or the fairy people, probably as mythical as the banshee in Ireland or the Scottish benshie. But while it may not be possible to claim for Tuhoeland a monopoly of fairy-folk, it is true that nowhere in Maoriland are there such varieties of legends treating of patu-pai-arehe to be heard as in the wild and once turbulent land of Tuhoe, where nightly the kaumatuas, or learned men of the tribe, make the flesh of little children creep with tales of dread taniwhas, magic spells, and witchcraft; yet, endeavouring to calm the little brown bairns of the pas with stories of the kind and gentle patu-pai-arehe, partly clothed with the attributes of demi-gods, with bright white faces, and loving ways of living. Their lives, if they were mortals, were spent in a land of mystery, high above the sea-level, in a region where also dwelt taniwhas, fierce and unrelenting, their nightly accompaniments being weird wailings from the forests, groaning from the many caves in Tuhoeland, and awesome whispers from the still bosom of the Sea of the Rippling Waters.

I like the way you think Xen, there are scientific truths within the lore which associate to ancient schools/pools of knowledge.

This Story here, resonates to many biblical connections. Reminded me of some of the people that left this earth on chariots or by other means, like enoch, moses, ect.

Moses brought back two stones, apparently the original Whare Wananga was built with two stones, that Tane Nui o Rangi(Moses?) brought back from the Twelth Heaven. These two stones were said by some to once be the foundation stones used at THE CROSSHOUSE AT MIRINGA TE KAKARA.

Mokopuna, the flames will soon become embers and the shadow will creep close about us. And you will sleep and dream. 'I roto i ou moemoea ka tae wairua mai te matauranga ki a koe... and in your dreams knowledge will come to you.'

We did not always walk in the Light. In ancient days we lost our way on the tides of life and confusion ruled. Then a voice called to Tane Nui o Rangi and said...

'I am Rehua, Keeper of the Knowledge of the Universe. Come to me in the Twelth Heaven and I will give you the Three Kete of great wisdom.'

Tane Nui o Rangi used the magic of the growing vines to climb the celestrial tree. Then he took wood from it to make a arrow to shoot him past the stars to the House of Rehua. There the God welcomed him and gave into his care the Three Kete of Knowledge.

When he returned to the tree and stepped down from the vines, he took again his earth name of Tane Mahuta. And he gave the Kete to the children of Light who walked to bring peace to the world.

That was not to be because whiro, the brother of Tane Mahuta, envied those who carried the Kete and demanded them for himself. However, tane Mahuta said...

'Only those who walk without anger and serve others may have these gifts. Put aside the rage that consumes you and come in peace and they are yours.'

Whiro cherished his cloak of anger and would not put it aside. Instead he drew it close about him and flew the long trails of the Universe until he found Rehuna. And was given the Kete of Darkness that held the terrible knowledge of war.

I was aware of it, just went and looked again indepth, and in general principle i agree.

The old world system of governance was not dominated by postions of power and influance, but by where you where born, in accordance to the 36 heavens/houses, and other celestrial objects notably the moon.

There is suggestion of this in the bible as well, notable in the formation of the hebrew army, when trevelling the wilderness for 40 years, 12 thousand from each tribe, on a rotateing system, was it according to when you where born, assigned ones lifes learning to one of the 12 levels/tribes of israel, or pools of knowledge specificly tailored to ones birth date, Taurus, libra, scorpio, etc.

There was also a 13th tribe(levi), associate with the number 7 and the serpent, being central in the luna calander, like divinci last supper of 12 deciples with Jesus in the middle, similar symbolic meanings?

I think astrology, are rements of a greater system, that the east and west systems, work best in co-ordination, and allow the 3rd view when seen in contrast.

I suspect some ancient myth and animal charactors, symbolized the charataristis of that particular animal, and also could relate to times of birth, and when they were born, thus the traits of a person can be mapped and used to the individuals advantage in lifes progressing path.......

I wonder how far the internet goes to brigdeing that gap, where a group of collective consousness from all the houses can meet and converge, would that count?, perhaps communication is already being exchanged subconsously?

There is also mention of Ancestors of Waitaha in connection with Orion, and that system as well, with knowledge being recived. I will post that info when i find it :).
