Aurora Borealis Possible Again Tonight!
I'm in Virginia, and I just read on our local news site that we could possibly have the Aurora Borealis visible again tonight. This is exciting for me as I have always wanted to see this first hand. I didn't get to see it last night so hopefully tonight will be the night!

Re: Aurora Borealis Possible Again Tonight!
hmm, that's sort of misleading, or confusing, I guess.

Aurora Borealis is the name of the aurora typically seen at the North Pole. Are they actually suggesting that this is the same aurora? that's how the article read. And from everything else I've been reading on this, it was cause by a filament erupting (or whatever appropriate word) which wouldn't be the same as the northern lights.

That would be cool!

I will be on the look out tonight.

I saw some beautiful pictures today but I didn't see anything in the sky over Northern Va last night, if it was visible at some point in VA I missed it.

peace

Spaceweather.com has some pics from Virginia on their site. Where it listed the different states, if you click on Virginia it will show some pretty awesome pics of a bright red sky. I hope tonight doesn't disappoint!

Yes it is the same thing... both are caused by charged particles from the Sun... OK?

Whether it's from a CME or not, they are still charged particles from the Sun, so YEAH it's the same thing.

Hope so. I am in Northern Virginia. Wenrt outside last night but I must have missed it.

Saw the aurora borealis for the first time when I lived in Alaska. Amazing does not even begin to cover the feeling.
