Does anybody here worship ancient Gods & Goddess?
My family has a LONG history of worshiping Hermes, in my area where i grew up had an alter to Pan in the middle of the woods, and an alter of zues marking the enternce of the area. The reason behind not building temples is simple, they get torn down. or set fire to, or a numerous of other things that can happen.

No one in this country really wants to be labeled as pagan, not in the real target kinda sense and the constuction of a temple does just that.

I have always been of the opinion religon finds you. when a god claims you the only thing you can really do is go along. I have a nominal apprentece who just got tapped, much to his own mental stress. You don't find religon It finds you, usually with a sledgehammer.

Re: Does anybody here worship ancient Gods & Goddess?
My favorite is Poseidon. Lots of things happened from my time spent 'meditating' on Poseidon. We had a lot of rain that year :P and I came up with the Aquatic Ape theory on my own. It strikes me as interesting that he's the god of horses and horses were once aquatic as well.

Pan's cool.

Haven't had anything "Happen" with Pan although I definitely feel a liking toward all the artwork depicting him, and feel like there is a lot to be discovered, a lot that's been 'lost'.

Not sure exactly what a "God" is, or what "worship" entails. I like to include things that give them space, like for Poseidon I include shells and water in my decor. I feel like if they are given room they can make their old truths known, to me it is something beyond religion.

Since I haven't seen any new Gods cropping up lately, I question: Aren't we all worshiping ancient God(s)?

If you live in America and you are clueless about the mystery relgions, then you are indirectly worshiping them as they permeate the entire culture, economy and lifestyle. I believe the term is called Babylonians and most of you will be set on fire. The end.

All the god are ancestors, rulers of realms like air, water, fire, earth, etc, all have rules and principles that need to be respected, but there is a god of gods, king of kings, here he is known as Io, or El.

We worship Popeye and have a can of spinach on the alter.

We chant continuously: "I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger to today. After which we drink Olive Oyl from a Golden Chalice.

Re: Does anybody here worship ancient Gods & Goddess?
worship is not what the old ones require. they were simply the first conscious humans being. you are just like them. the religious from the middle east killed and raped your great great great etc grampy and grandma and switched shit up because 5000 years ago, grampa and grandma behaved as gods to the primitives they found in africa/middle east. it's a funny karma playing out to those who know. especially the blue eyed christians and jewish people killing people in the name of their slave owners god, which was their anscestors! ahahahaghagjtrs

it's so weird!!!!! or wyrd.

To me, Pan is faeries play pipes in the wilderness and seducing other faeries and mortals into their realm. If you happen to see any then please let me know so I can get home. :)

Re: Does anybody here worship ancient Gods & Goddess?
OP are you willing to share any more of your families history? My family has a history of witchcraft going back to Sicily, apparently my ancestors learned some serious magic when they vacationed in eithopia. But by the time I came around the only remaining practitioner was a great great aunt, and her practice was christianized.

Re: Does anybody here worship ancient Gods & Goddess?
We can look around at what survives of the ancient world and see they knew all kinds of things we don't know today. (how to build a pyramid, for example) What did they know of gods that we don't? I wonder if anyone is still alive that knows? I have a lot of respect for anyone who is still able to follow ancient ways.

Interesting. My theory is that "gods" are the collective souls of entities in charge of a particular aspect of nature.
For instance a horse "god" or "goddess" is the Oversoul of all horses, from which individual horses come from.
Called the Master or Mistress of Beasts in the Stone Age.
My culture has the King of the Cats-called Big Ears!(wich just kinda cracks me up)
And I get on very well with cats because I respect where they come from.
I don't so much worship "gods" as acknowledge them as friends.
Never been one for bowing and scraping.

Yes wonderful thread. It stands to reason that if we are immortal souls, then the Gods and Goddesses are still alive.

I loved to read mythology when I was a child. Bullfinch's was one of my favorite books.
