I will never shop at Wal*mart or Target again. I go to the farmers market for fruit, veggies and milk. I also get my meats from a local butcher. I am sorry but I do not trust the "great value" items. They may be cheap but look at the ingredients.

I don't think it's the lighting.

Because we all know the products come from China (a very sore spot with us for many reasons) and that now HS has a part with them that subconsciously it turns our stomachs.

That, plus the workers (in all the ones I've been in...I don't mind going there) seem almost post office-like. They're nice enough, but it's just a job, hence the coldness.

I think op is on to something, Notice how all wal-marts have a bank, a hair salon, a McDonalds, and mine even has a medical clinic. I think it will be the only retailer left, we will be issued credits and will only be redeemable at WALMART. Its brilliant really.

I hate Hellmart!! I try not to go but sometimes I have to give in so I'm not wasting time and gas. Yesterday was one of those days and at the checkout, this goofy man-child was weighing my bags as he bagged them! I asked him why he weighed them and he said each bag will hold up to 16 lbs so he was helping by using fewer bags! WTF!!

I work the graveyard shift and a few fellow doom-tards often come into my office on their breaks to discuss topics relevant to GLP. One thing that I continually bring up is "Why does WalMart have so many checkout lanes?"

Now before I start, let me preface this by saying, I quit shopping at Walmart. I meant to quit long before I did for matters of principle, but there aren't many places to get a gallon of milk at 2am. Now, I say screw the milk, I'll wait til morning. About a year ago, I went to a Walmart to get a few things around 10:30pm. I got it all, including a gallon of milk, and proceeded to the check out. 10:30 pm....and there was one lane open servicing a line 15 people long. And some of them had full carts. One lane open. No self checkout lanes open.. Utter bullshit. I sat my stuff down in the aisle and walked out.

But....

It may be me, but did you ever notice how when you walk into WalMart, it feels different than any other store. LIke gloomy and cold and well just odd. Maybe it's the lighting. I dunno. But I feel like I am walking into a prison or something. Like a store in a Soviet Bloc country or something. To me it just doesn't fit in and is different than any other American stores. Not shopper friendly.

But why do they have so many stinking check out lanes if theyre only going to keep at most 4 open at a time? 50 freaking checkout lanes and 4 open. OK, maybe 8 at Christmas. But seriously? WalMart is cheap. They bend companies over like a harlem rapist trying to thrust every penny out so they can make more money. So, I darn well know they are not going to waste money on all that extra expense of cash registers, computer monitors, barcode scanners, etc on 40 extra lanes.

What if, and I mean what it, just a thought I think everytime it comes up.... Well, you all know how WalMart is in bed with Big Sis at DHS ie Watch your neighbor and report their activity.... What if when the shit hits the fan and they bus us all off to our new homes at Camp FEMA, they issues us cards, or marks, or whatever, and we now have an assigned day to pick up our rations. All rations are given out at Walmart because they can support it from a facilities standpoint ie checkout lanes.

Just a thought. I'm probably all wrong. I hope so. But who knows, after reading the other threads, that false flag is coming in a few weeks. The one where they drop all the nukes in the pacific, then make an EAS announcement that it was a meteor, and more are coming and we need to run to CAmp FEMA. lol. Just kidding.

After college I worked in store planning for walmart, worst job ever but I got to travel to every low life town in the USA that walmart would make "great." I was on a team that goes into the town/county and speak to future customers and get there feedback. My job was pointless because Walmart did not care what future customer said. It was a known fact in store planning that walmarts were being built bigger to hold mass amounts of people due to the agreement with dhs and fema. So if there was another Katrina or natural disaster Walmart could house them. I only stayed in that job three months and to this day I have no idea why they ever gave me a job in store planning because I have a criminal justice degree, which I always thought was werid.

Just a "heads up" for everyone: pass on the "Great Value" frozen food items. I've spent a considerable amount of time in one of the larger subcontractor's facilities (Wal-Mart subs out this work, despite an absence of anything but Wal-Mart nomenclature and markings on the packaging), and I can promise you I'll never knowingly purchase or eat these products ever again.

In other words, if society collapses, and the last meal is a "Great Value" Philly cheesesteak, don't be surprised if I'm flipping through the pages of an old Army manual in search of flora and fungi that is native to my immediate area, and suitable for consumption.

I won't go into extreme detail, or name names...but I will say this: you've probably heard how ruthless Wal-Mart can be when negotiating contracts with national brands...just imagine how things go when they have even more leverage and control over a subcontractor.

OP....

1.
It's well to late to find the link, but FEMA has large contracts w/ WM & they build their structures to FEMA specs. I dont need to prove this as I know it to be fact. The truth on all that is out there....

2.
I'll turn the vavle on myself well before using any ration card....

3. I feel food stamps is the new ration card in place...

I don't remember where I heard this, but I have been told that Walmart will be exactly what you say it will. This is where people will get food and the post office will be used for other things.

One thing that has me curious is, I live in a small town of 2700 people. We are 25 miles from the nearest Walmart. We have 1 grocery store in town, Brookshire Brothers. Our local rinka dink store just completed a nearly 2 million dollar renovation. Now it is one of the most beautiful stores around. But this is happening in a lot of places. I have been wondering if this isn't to serve the same purpose in small towns.

Just wondering.

They don't call them 'chains' for nothing.

Yes, I have been thinking this about WM for the past few years.

Have you noticed how they are removing more and more brand names from their shelves and adding more and more 'great value'?

I think 'great value' will be the only brand soon.

Interesting thoughts and ideas for sure Trinity! Who the heck knows? I supposed its possible =)

I personally dislike Walmart too. I know a lot of people who shop there because "its so cheap and convenient - they have everything!" But I try to avoid it at all possible, which is not too hard for me at least! The "closest" walmart is about an hour away. The only time I shop there is if they have something on sale that we need, and if the savings is significant enough to make it worth it (I have three kids - so I have a strict budget and try to save in any way possible!) Lately however, it just has not been worth it. My last few experiences there have been much like yours - more frustration then what they are worth. An example, my most recent, and most likely last visit: A couple weeks ago me and my husband left our kids with my mom and we made a Christmas shopping trip (yup already - two of my kids have birthdays in December, so I HAVE to start early.) My oldest son wants his own computer. I originally was going to just get him one of those mini laptops, he doesn't need anything too special. I personally have a mini, in addition to my regular laptop, that I use for travel, but the minis are not "high performers" by any means, they're meant for checking email, basic functions, ect. but, a mini would have been fine for him (he'll be 8 by xmas)for doing some homework, email, ect. But then I noticed that Walmart had a Toshiba laptop on sale: 15 inch screen, windows 7, 3 GB RAM/ 320 GB Hard drive, and it includes Microsoft Office Starter (full versions of Word and Excel for him to do homework with without having to buy an office suite, and yes he can deal with the ads? Yes pls!!) it was only 328 dollars, which I did not think was bad at all for a full sized laptop...heck I paid about 500 for my own mini laptop that I used for school/travel!! Anyway, we went in, went to the electronics department and I saw that they had two left of this laptop....I approached the nearest employee and said, "I know what I want..I want that toshiba laptop please, and thats it" well he was busy he said and he would be "right back". 20 minutes later he returns, and by this time there were 2 more people waiting for assistance with computers....people that came AFTER me mind you...well the jerk asks THEM what they needed! and they both said that laptop..i was pissed..there was only two left, I asked him for help first!! so I had to speak up and said, "sir excuse me but I asked you for help with that laptop over 20 mins ago, before these people came here." the other two people looked pissed but i did not care...the guy got a little huffy and said, "oh yes, i'll get it for you and be at the register in a minute...(heard that before!) so he unlocks the glass case, pulls out the two laptops and brings them both up...mine and the other person who managed to get one...then walks off again....so I wait for ANOTHER almost 20 minutes and FINALLY a cashier comes up to the check out.....i paid with a debit card and the stupid machine would not take it, which was crap cause it was pretty new as my old one had recently expired. Finally after like 5-6 tries she gets it to go through and I asked her, "this is only going to charge me once right?" She giggled and said, "oh i dont know, i dont think it will charge you more than once, i hope not that would suck huh?" You could tell she was a young girl...and man was she slow! I understand being new to a place working, I really do, but dont put a new/slow cashier out there to handle a busy line on a saturday afternoon in the elec. department! So I finally get checked out, and walked to the front of the store to finally leave, at this walmart (and I'm sure its the same at others) they have a person who stands near the exit and checks your receipt/bags - makes sure nothing gets stolen..although..usually at this store the person never does the job..they just wave people through....oh but not on this day! I had one freaking bag with one item it in....there were 3 ppl ahead of me with carts full...he could have easily seen i had one thing and let me go, but noooo..I had to wait AGAIN before I could finally leave.

What should have been a quick trip in and out to get a laptop that I already knew I wanted - had seen that it was on sale before hand, turned into and hour long ordeal.....I'm happy that I got my son a good laptop for Christmas, for a good price, and im very excited to see his reaction on xmas morning! thats all he talks about lately; how he wants his own computer...he s even been saving his 10/week allowance up to try and buy it himself! i keep trying to gentle pursuade him though...today i finally said, "why dont you wait...xmas is coming and maybe Santa will bring it, and if not, then you can buy one and mom and dad will chip in too if you get a really good report card" (first report cards will be out in about 2 weeks)...Anyway it was kind of worth the headache to make my boy happy, but after that I seriously doubt I will go in there again..their customer service skills are just horrible, and its prob. because they hire just about anyone! I know that Toshiba computers are not exactly "top of the line" - i personally buy Dells for myself, but I also have not heard anything terribly bad about them. it comes with a limited 1 year warranty too so thats good. however, even if i see a good deal at walmart again this experience has totally turned me away

How about mobile guard towers in Walmart parking lots?

I have already seen them at a walmart in Indiana.
