Coldplay reveals they were under hypnosis during recording of new album...
It is the age old problem of how bands can maintain the first flush of fame.

But Coldplay have now revealed how they bizarrely resorted to hypnotism to record their new album.

The chart-topping British band told how they attempted to write their latest album, Mylo Xoloto under hypnosis at the insistence of legendary producer Brian Eno.

The stars, frontman Chris Martin, bass player Guy Berryman, guitarist Jonny Buckland and drummer Will Champion, said that a hypnotherapist was brought in to see how it would affect results on their fifth album, which is released this week.

Former Roxy Music star Eno - who has worked with the band repeatedly - is known for his eccentric methods to get the best out of musicians.

Speaking as they released the album in Madrid, Spain, yesterday, Berryman, 33, said: ‘We're not afraid to try different things. Brian Eno brought a friend in and the four of us were playing music under hypnosis.

‘It didn't really come to anything. You try ten ideas and only one works. But nothing is too stupid for us.’

The band had previously spoken of using a hypnotist during recording on their last album, Vida la Vida, where guitarist Buckland told how the four band members had been lured into a ‘strange kind of trance’, adding: ‘and we came down and played some more.’

Frontman Martin, 34, agreed: ‘Quite a long time, I think. It did work, actually. We came up with a lot of interesting noises, which we used.’

Eno, 63, who has been behind albums such as U2's Achtung Baby, is known for his ‘Oblique Strategies’ - a pack of cards with strange random instructions for musicians to encourage them in different directions.

Chris Martin has a crazed look in his eye in that last photo, like he's possessed, and that spider-web looking patch on his shirt is like a strange all-seeing eye/black hole. It's obvious they sold-out a while to the Illuminati, which is a shame since they're talented musicians.

Here is a good article dissecting the cryptic lyrics of 'Vive le Vida', another creation of creepy Brian Eno.

Haha, it really is. I tried listening once and turned it off because almost every song had repeating lyrics, as if that emphasis would make it better. It worked for The Police's 'Message in a Bottle' but when Coldplay does it it's fucking annoying.
