So let me ask this then, how many of the OWS protesters and supporters have closed their bank accounts, cancelled their credit cards, pulled out of the stock market and stopped purchasing anything from a corporation?

How can you can you complain and protest against the very beast you're feeding? If you want to weaken it, make it go away, stop feeding it!!!!!

Re: It's coming folks...
...because Occupy the world is not going away any time soon.

They, the protestors have hit a nerve in this world, and sooner or later the messages they deliver will be heard.

Scott Olsen is representative of each and every one of us who have been victimized by the greed and actions of the 1%.

Olsen is an accidental hero in this movement, but he IS a hero.

****

Snip:

What happened in Oakland in the hours between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, however, is a definite escalation of tensions between protesters and authorities, and seems to indicate those authorities are edging closer and closer towards unleashing the dogs of war on people who offer no violence and pose no threat to anyone other than the financial power-brokers who have so thoroughly ravaged this country's future.

It goes without saying that not every person participating in these national actions are docile lambs; every movement, no matter its political denomination, is going to have its share of idiots and adrenaline-junkies. Within the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement, however, these types of people make up so small a fraction of the main as to be negligible...but they do offer authorities a nice excuse to bulldoze the whole movement, and it makes you wonder how many of these so-called agitators are running around causing trouble with a badge in their back pocket. Beyond agitators, there is the simple fact that not everyone is going to react like Gandhi when they get gassed, pepper-sprayed, flash-bombed, clubbed and shot with projectiles for peacefully assembling to point out a grievous wrong.

'Occupy Wall Street' is about saying "No."

"No" to institutionalized greed of such vast width and breadth that it plunders our country even as it smiles around a mouthful of filet mignon.

"No" to the ocean of corporate cash that drowns our democracy.

"No" to rewarding the failure of frauds who proudly carry the banner of capitalism even as they enjoy the galloping socialism of the government bailout.

"No" to those who refuse to hire new employees because they want to screw over the economy and remove a president they don't like. But it is also about so much else.

The ‘Occupy’ movement is as diverse and multifaceted as the cities and towns where it has been happening. More often than not, local issues are at the forefront of the protester’s concerns; Wall Street is local for New York City, but in Oakland, the protest has been geared more toward halting austerity measures and the closures of schools and libraries…and, yes, police violence. Yet even as every ‘Occupy’ community has its own set of priorities, it is all part of a single continuum, as the issues being protested all stem from the same core concerns that crashed the economy, and created the movement, in the first place.

'Occupy Wall Street' is not about getting into a public crunch with cops over whether or not tents should be allowed in a public park. Rather than react with violence to people who are sacrificing themselves to point out what has gone so terribly wrong with the America we all love, these authorities should take a step back and encompass the awesome fact that such a movement has become so very necessary in the first place.

Well, OP, I would probably be considered in the so-called 1%, along with people like Michael Moore... though not nearly with the wealth of Michael Moore.

So, seriously, how much of Michael Moore's and my wealth are the 99% asking for us to give up?

Better still, read the entire article.

And, even better than that, go to a protest near you.

They are on to something. They are as honest as the day is long about their feelings and they sincerely want the best for everyone.

Many of them are REV. There is a credit union movement brewing right now. NOV 5 is the date everybody is going to move in a mass exodus. I think it's a mistake myself.

I say you leave your big bank account open, deposit checks and cash transfers into it and withdraw in cash. Take the cash to the credit union. You can do that over and over. BY FED rules a bank must keep $1 in cash for every $10 in checking account deposits. Since savings accounts and time deposits are not counted they really only have 1 real dollar for every 20 or so on the legers. Drain their cash and you're doing 10 to 20 times the damage of closing your account and e-transfering to your new credit union account. And you can do it over and over 10 times a week if you feel ambitious.

That is kind of interresting considering the bankers have given more money to the Obama campaign than all republicans combined.

So the bankers are funding a movement against themselves... that will force Obama to crack down on Occupy... so the socialist big money borrowing from the bankers can go on.

That actualy does sound like somethng they might do.

I express my views this way: "those with more than enough have responsibility to see that others have at least enough."

It is ^^THIS^^ statement that motivates me to the actions I take personally. But I'd rather do something more fruitful than stand around "protesting" to get others to do something. Rather than coercing or guilting others, I'd rather show others that there's a better way to be human.

I can't declare that I am antibank/corp, DaChicken, but what I don't like is the little guy/girl getting less than his/her effort is worth, and not having the quality of life, the American Dream everyone thought they would someday have.

I disagree that the protests aren't having an effect. This is the very first time a movement has been centered around inequality and greed.

I believe the big boys and girls are more than a bit uneasy over this "happening".

There are way more of us than there are of them, and all change begins with a single idea which captures the imagination of others.

Re: It's coming folks...
Another question please. Just how are these protests suppose to change anything? Do you really expect the bankers and corporations to just break down, feel remorse, say they're sorry and make things right? And if so, just how do you expect them to reverse the harm?

Oh! Pardon me!

Your persona as well as your handle is gentle, and I erroneously attributed that to a female.

Second time I'm apologizing to you!

Yes, those I know and those I met do have their hearts and minds in a good place, and just want a seat at the table of life.

Whether this is the movement which will bring change, Love and Life, I don't know.

I do know I support the good they are trying to achieve.

I, too, support good hearts.

Wonderful!

I only wish others saw the world and it's people in the same way. We would be a much better place.

The problem with "showing" the masses or the greedy big boys/girls, is defining how to make a "better way".

Protesting can come in sizes big and small, but this one is global. Massive. It's the easiest way to "show" discontent by those who are disenfranchised yet united under this banner.

If only there were a better way...

The Obama raking in banker money part isn't silly. It made the Washington Post anyway.

No, you're right there.

So, what to do?

I say stop all campaign contributions and the SCOTUS says let's make corporations individuals.

We live in a world where right is sometimes wrong and wrong is sometimes right.
