How did the taxes affect you keeping what you got?

Taxes...good question. The contributions are not a "write off" for the companies that participate and "donate". If it was a donation then the homeowner would be responsible for taxes. So they consider all the labor and material as a "gift" so no taxes due to the homeowner and no write off for the business that contributed materials/labor.

As a person/company that worked many hours and contributed both materials and labor it was quite different than what we had always seen on tv. How much do you think the Design Team really works on a project?

We built and installed a custom garage door and opener. Value was about 5,000. No credit given on the show. We would have to pay extra for that.

I think Karma will punch him in the face for this. He does not do anything other than video and photo ops for the show. I was disappointed. Call me niave, but I really thought they helped out on construction.

Sorry do disappoint you but I am just another human. We signed on to do this show before all the details came to light...that's how they get the local support. The story is it is all done by the local community, not much help from ABC or the "stars" that they show on the show.

The donation value was 1.5 million in local construction workers product/labor. That's a lot in this economy.

To tell the truth, we did not know all the details when we signed on. It was pretty exciting in the beginning, but the details were quite different.

I bet it was a really nice door too....

Yes it was. It was architectually designed and we built to spec just for them. Quite nice for a garage door.

I can tell you I got to meet Ty....he was at a local bar. Not quite as impressive as his on camera personality, but then he was kind of drunk...lol

The family is not low income, but they do a lot for disabled kids (and 2 out of 3 of their kids are autistic). I will let you decide if they deserved it.

We used the new Genie/Overhead Door screw drive motor. It was 18 x 8 so we needed max lifting power.

With these shows, I just can't help believing their is some sort of scam going on, at some level.

Quite honestly, I have not decided if it is a scam or not. You commit way before the details are available. We always work for our local families, and have done several jobs that don't get national attention. All the major work and donations are done by small, local companies. They do not give credit during the show unless you pay extra.

We wanted to do the Liftmaster Resi Jackshaft, but they didn't wire for it.
