I think a lot of people WANT natural disasters to happen just to keep the news exciting....the end of the world would be a pretty good distraction from an otherwise boring existence.

However, I know there IS a lot of weird stuff going on at the minute and loads of really nasty weather. Hopefully things will improve really soon, may there be peace on earth for us all.
