Children aren't disciplined in the home. Their parents don't want them to be disciplined by the school system. Most teachers and administrators don't care enough to ensure they have discipline. Teacher's unions are such a joke. Heaven forbid they pay good teachers more and fire bad teachers. Is that asking too much, reward people good at their job and fire shit bags? Apparently it is. |

I also take issue with the new "Everyday Math" and anti-phonetic reading. It's fucking horseshit, and if it wasn't for the social benefits of physically attending school, I would homeschool my children. Instead, I plan to let the school do their thing, be as Vocal as I can to the board of ed. while still being respectful to the teachers, and teach my kids my own way at home.... |

Our occupational therapist stated that it is necessary for some mental development to do cursive. |

| samanthasunflower User ID: 5364986 11/21/2011 09:06 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Too many liberal teachers who believe that their job is to morally shape children into themselves, but God or actual morals aren't allowed in the classroom. The children are required to be there, even if they don't want to be. No matter how horribly they act, we still have to teach them. No teaching of the basics, it's always a rush to implement some new fad or theme on teaching. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 498050 11/21/2011 09:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What is a major issue with public education today? There are so many issues, it would be difficult to pinpoint down to one or even 4. as a public educator myself, I have seen the good, bad and the ugly of our present educational system. It used to be ('60's) when a teacher could control a class of 30 or 40 students. Not any more, although in the city where I teach, it is not uncommon to see 30+ in a single classroom. The reasoning being budgetary. Not enough money to support smaller class sizes. Here's how the District cuts administrative costs. They will lay off grunt workers (the people actually doing the paper pushing work necessary to keep the wheels turning) and hire consultants at 3 times the salary just to say they laid off workers. Now that really saves a lot of money eh? NOT! It sickens me to see the waste of resources and squandering of money like consultant principal "coaches" hired at $350/hr to tell a principal how to do his/her job. NCLB (No Child Left Behind) is a joke. Raising the bar for quality teaching is a noble enterprise however the only people gaining from demanding ongoing training for teachers are the colleges and online learning centers that offer courses to meet the teachers requirements to be considered highly qualified. If you want to improve the system, offer training on how to be a better parent. Don't expect teachers to raise the students. So much time is wasted on behavior control, I would have to say that out of a 6 hour school day, 2 hours are actually spent on teaching the core curriculum. Throw out standardized tests. Who cares if a kid doesn't meet state standards? Teach to the child, not the test. We're teaching the kids how to take a test, nothing more. Memorization of facts that don't mean a hill of beans have consumed the urban school district. Why not offer courses that will actually help a child succeed in the world, like money mnanagement? Whatever happened to etiquette, or home economics? Quit treating students like they are prisoners. Stop using a ringing bell to Pavlov train when a period is up. It's up when they get it, right? Right now, the administration is against the educator, not for the educator. The teachers are the problem, not the parents. after all, with all the paperwork the teachers have to contend with, their little babies aren't getting the attention they deserve because the teachers have to write IEP's, curriculum maps, lesson plans based on state goals and standards, disciplinary forms, make parent phone calls, grade classwork, submit attendance, attend professional development classes, and make their students take ongoing online assessments containing the standards they have to learn all before the state tests in March! That's right, they know that once Spring arrives, the kids attention spans go out the window so they have to test a full years worth of curriculum in less than 7 months. I've been teaching for 10 years and will probably quit soon, well before my retirement age. I'd rather be happy and said I tried than continue working for a broken system. OCCUPY A PUBLIC SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 5793170 11/21/2011 09:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The problems to be found in the education system stems largely from the influence/agenda/machinations of the Rockefeller and Carnagie Foundations. Don't know if these are the root causes or if they're a front for something else, *cough*Rothchilds*cough*cough*, but we're now firmly in the grip of their generated libtarditis. Poor little Timmy isn't quite as good at math as a comparably educated grandparent but, oh, little Timmy knows exactly what to think about Jane and her two mommies, just to pick a safe example. How I wish the system forstered individuals who strove to be noble-minded instead of these self-superior little turds who spew forth nothing but dogma and catch-phrases while exhibiting vacant values (not to over-generalize but...). It's just so exhausting to be around. All I want now is a system crash. I mean really, the world needs to get big again. Bring on the DOOM. |
