hmm, maybe i should look out the window for awhile, im in NJ. if its not thundersnow, it could just be transformers blowing. During Irene I kept seeing blue/green flashes, and did not always hear the distinct transformer "bang," but that's what it was.

Transformers are blowing, normal during snowstorms with heavy snow flakes.

so i guess what does that mean? would the flashes sustain a long period of time in the sky?

its weird their energy would output blue and green and red lights. although i'm not an electrician so maybe it's not weird at all...

The red lights just pulsed on and off like some sort of current. When the big burst of light occurred in the video above there was no sound, just the crazy lights which stopped entirely after that discharge. I've lived here 30 years and never saw that before...

Correct. This is very common during Winter Storms. Can be quite spectacular especially during a storm of this magnitude. A transformer explosion can be seen from many miles away and can take on many colors. Tonight is exceptional as power outages tonight are exceeding all time records in Southern New England.

Re: Anybody noticing changing colors and lights in the sky during this snowstorm?
I was traveling thru worst of snowstorm from NYC to Boston 10/29/11. Yes, there were green flashes caused from lightening during a wet thunder snow that has a lot of ice crystals in it in the upper atmosphere, but wetter down below.

Originally from Indiana, I saw green skies right before a tornado. This is caused from the hail formed high in the tornado where it is where it is more violent and colder. If you see this, run for cover.

It is all due to the refraction of light , and the green color is the lightwave that comes through. Light of daylight or light from the lightning looks green when passing thruough ice crystals.

I live in rural New Hampshire and was without power from about 7 pm onward. I watched it for hours. There is no way it came from short circuits on electric lines. They were all done for miles around. At first I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. It was like watching a fire dancing on the wall of a dark room. Everywhere I went I could see this faint flickering light. I could not tell where it was coming from though. Very strange.

I live here my life of 34years and never saw thi before. Ther was a huge flash of a neon green burst of light then a very bright white blinding light like a nuclear bomb explosion.when the power went out in the west side of the duluth. (Is the military using the wether changing device that they have made to cause major earthquakes tsunamis volcanoes a major disasters)or was it just an asteroid coming in super close to the earth that's what some people are saying but I don't think so because of the master that bright exploded I'll be dead right now. Thundersnow thundersnow is the weirdest experience I've had in my lifetime living in Duluth Minnesota.
