You are very strong and brave. I didn't stay with my lab and I really regret it. I had just got divorced and it was all I could do to drive her to the vet. My whole life was falling apart before my eyes and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

I will pray for you and your dog. I'm sure that we reunite with those wonderful souls at the end and get to spend enternity as healthy and happy souls.
Sorry

I have nothing to say that will ease your pain.

The most perfect thing about dogs is that they ask nothing of you but love, and give it back unconditionally. They are perfect creatures and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.

You loved her with all your heart, and just remember, when your time comes to cross over, she will be there, tail wagging, waiting for you.

You will be again someday. I believe that with all my heart.

Be glad you were with her. When my dog died, I was off the coast of Pakistan, and had to get the news from my mom. That was about ten years ago, and I still got tears thinking about it.

OP, i know what you are going through, i lost my Bobo, and my Waddles recently.

For you.... [link to www.youtube.com]

This was sent to me, when i lost my babies

I believe they pick us. I believe that somehow we get paraded by them at the time we need them the most and they give us that look that only the human and dog can see. They pick us because we need them more than they need us, truly. They heal us by allowing us to love them without the complications of human interaction with another human. Sometimes we just need to love. They become the objects of our affections and we theirs.
It sometimes amazes me when people overlook the fact that they really do pick us. They stand in the gap of emotional despair and bridge us through the "appearance" of us being the "master". Seems to me that they are the healers....we are simply the healed.
To all my past friends, thank you.
OP, I am sure by looking at your friends pictures that he was a great friend. his eyes tell the tale. He confidently stares into a camera for those pictures to be snapped. Another example of his healing power even after his life had expired. What a blessing.
Thank you so much for sharing your friend with us. I pray that your load is lessened because of your selfless sharing. He leaves behind a better world because of his existance. That is what a legacy is made of....Godbless him....and you.

^^ This ^^

Both of my dogs are pound puppies / rescues and I'm a huge believer that when they go I will get more. Not because they need to be "replaced" but because I truly believe that there are millions of perfect dogs & cats put down every year simply because there are not enough people that love them. If your home is short the love of a dog, there are plenty of dogs who would gladly fill the void, and love you with all of his heart. Millions of them desperately waiting for love before their time runs out.

She couldn't move this morning.
Her gums were white as a sheet of paper. (sign of internal bleeding)
The vet met me at his office, and we put her down with her in my arms. (he changed his mind about not letting me be in the room).
She weights 95 lbs and I swear I could feel her become lighter as she passed. Say what you want, I know people under stress interpret things poorly, but I felt her body lighten as she passed. It was as if her weight passed through me? I can't explain it. We are all so sad from this. Not even sure why I am posting this?

Re: My dog died in my arms this morning.
This is Heaven

This is HeavenA man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for some time also.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment, and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and
at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump ."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.
That's Hell disguised as Heaven."

"Doesn't it make you angry for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

Cried like a baby at that one.

Good lord, why do I do this to myself? Every time there is a "I had to put my pet down" thread I read all posts and SOB and SOB through them all.

Beautiful story.

True in life as well. My husband and I rarely travel to places the dogs can't go. If the dogs can't go, its not a family vacation...

With pets you can't be right from being wrong. Genuinely.

No matter how good you treat the animal, even like a family member, you'll always feel like you've done them bad in their later days. (I.e getting a dog put down.)

We had our Staffy put down last November from cancer, and I know how fucking horrible it feels.

Just take comfort in the fact you treated it as good as you did. :)
