YU55. Check this out.
Alright, I know people are scared that YU55 is gonna hit us or the moon. I'm not here to say that is or is not going to happen. I am however here to show you how pointless it is to focus on any one rock flying at us. In the last few days we have had a few extremely close calls with space rocks. You should check this site out and see what I'm talking about:

See? There is stuff flying at us all the time. Chances are if you pick one to focus on nothing is going to happen and it will be one you dont see coming.

It is less than 1 LD, 0.0022 AU should be equal to 329120 km if I calculated it correct, or was it mentioned yet ? If then sorry!

With a Diameter of 7 - 13m and roughly 0.0001 AU nearer, oh please, YU55 is 400m and my Question is, what does YU55 consists of ? That would matter in things of gravity and Drift ( Gas Eruptions ?) or would´nt it?

 Quoting: Trickster

Could be anything from "snow" to solid metal.

That would matter in things of gravity
 Quoting: Trickster

Not really.

Even if it was made of solid gold it couldn't mass more then a quarter billion tonnes.
Which is nothing compared to the mass of the Earth or the Moon.

As I have been trying to say for months now, if one body's mass is very small compared with the other, the actual mass of the smaller body has no effect on the calculated orbit.
If you'd put Saturn in Earth's place, it would orbit the Sun in one year.
If you'd put a teapot in Earth's place, it would orbit the Sun in one year.

and Drift ( Gas Eruptions ?) or would´nt it?
 Quoting: Trickster

That's the other side of the equation.
Let's presume it's a dark comet and masses only a million tonnes (very fluffy).
An outgassing would impart a force on it and change its velocity.
To get this thing 300,000 km closer to Earth in less then 10 days would require a delta-v directed towards the Earth of more then 300 metres per second.
That would require the energy produced by several tonnes of dynamite.

I don't see how it could do that, or how it would survive such a bang.

Re: YU55. Check this out.
It won't hit the Earth or the Moon, but it is passing through or near a gravitational 'keyhole'.

The keyhole is caused by the Earth's and the Moon's gravity acting on YU55 to alter its orbit. It is very possible that during this pass, its orbit will get altered enough so that on its next pass it impacts Earth!

The fact is that NASA/JPL know that its going to be very close. So close in fact that it will be years before NASA/JPL will be able to compute the new orbit with enough accuract to know if Earth gets hit on the next pass or not.

But one this in sure, NASA/JPL will never tell the public if they determine an impact event will happen.

Lucky then that we don't depend on NASA/JPL for such information.

NASA/JPL does not own every telescope and sliderule on the planet.
