432 Hz Anyone have trouble tuning a piano from A440 to A432?

Cannot speak on the piano, because of the difficulty, time, and cost in retuning...but I've experimented on two guitars.

Now I'm an evangelist of sorts for this...and for some music, I'm trying 428Hz! Next after that, C=256Hz which would make A a fraction above 430Hz. That one might be fun, since it links to so much history in mathematics.


The results from the 432 trials, which were greatly aided by the new Snark tuner I found at Guitar Center a few months back, are conclusive to me...and from the casual survey of musicians I've done here in Detroit, it seems they are reproducible as well. Meaning, others hear and feel what I do using this tuning to play their own creations.


The lower tuning seems to resonate better with the human perceptual 'machine'. Simple as that. It is more harmonious with our mystic selves, as far as I'm concerned.


Funny that there is a push for a more strident tuning for some hard rock music...it is not uncommon for some to use 442 and 444 instead of the 'world standard' of 440. Some orchestras use the higher tuning, too...like the NY Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony, according to the Wiki.


A=440 was really brought to us by a famous Nazi mystic, Joseph Goebels, in a 1939 symposium. His name is oddly omitted from the current Wiki, but when I mention it to my Jewish musician friends, it helps them at least consider trying the experiment!


So, yeah, with guitars and some synthesizers...it is pretty easy to play around...but I cannot imagine tuning an entire piano just for fun. Then back again if the experiment failed. If you have unlimited funds, just buy three pianos, and I'll come out and experiment with you. We can record it all for future generations...

I actually am recording a CD in 432. I am fronting the cost of retuning a piano though, so I wanted to know approx how many tunings it could take. I've heard some respond better than others, but wanted to know if anyone had done it. I'm quite familiar with everything you mentioned above, I find it very fascinating. Tuning my acoustic guitar and the 3 violins I don't foresee a problem with. I've been playing that way with my guitar for some time now. 417 interested me as well because of the math, like you said, but have decided on 432. Everything just seems right from the sound, to the math, to the pythagorean theory and all of the history behind it with the ancients. I've read most Egyptian and Greek instruments were tuned to this frequency as well.

Thanks I'm ordering the book. I don't really understand the correlation between the hardware used for recording and how the illuminati uses it to crank out hits though. Can you explain? I think its a simple promotion thing at that point.

I have read some interesting things about overlaying white noise onto a track and using psychics or mentally gifted people to encode messages onto it. The reason for the white noise is it is every frequency under the sun, thus becoming white noise. Preston Nichols talks about them doing this at Montauk in Music of Time. Very interesting.

For a piano player who plays in A=432 Hz

In my dreams, I build a recording studio here in the city.


I would have three pianos available...each tuned to one of the three most-common tunings of A.


A baby grand at 440, my 100-year-old upright player tuned to 432...and a Bosendorfer monster at the lowest...corresponding to that ancient Pythagorean mono-chord C=256 rate.


It would feature Faraday shielded rooms, and the entire structure would be one huge Faraday box as well. While I'm at it, I'd nest another meditation room within those for greatest isolation...and put a sensory deprivation tank in for serious fun.


I know of a few really good piano tuners in town...and the best ones use tuning forks still. You might want to call around and survey the tuners in your area to find who might be open to this experiment.

I played with tuning my resonator guitar all the way down to 417 last night...with an unfortunate accident trying 420Hz for A, because I like the number.

Ugh, it didn't sound very good. But there was something about 417Hz...it is funny how merely detuning allows me to investigate things more. I hear it all differently, maybe feel it more. It is tough to explain.

I'm still leaning towards something between 428 and 432Hz. I thought the Pythagorean middle C=256 gave us 430.2587 or some shit like that for A-above-midC. Where did you find that yielding 417-418?!

It might have something to do with the type of tuning...I'm not clear on the concept yet, but even-tempered is how we tune stringed instruments in the modern age...but there are other staggerings or steps necessary for some ancient instruments...like the clavinet and piano-forte. I remember there being a Mozart piece called The Well-Tempered Clavinet, where he investigated that 'new' tuning technique. (don't anyone yell at me if I got the composer wrong, I'm not fact-checking this...)
