Years ago (decades) I had a cat that developed this problem. The veterinarian said this was common in cats that were "fixed" too soon and the urinary tract did not fully develop.

I am thinking that this old horse doctor was basing his opinion on years of experience. Since that time, I always wait as long as possible before "fixing" a pet and they have not had any such urinary tract issues.

Just saying that even though I fall for the hype and buy the expensive food, it could actually be as the old vet said.
