Im worried about a cute & cuddly furry friend
Ive been seeing an Opossum in my backyard for atleast 3-4 weeks now. 2 weeks ago I noticed how he had runny nose & watery eyes and I didnt think anything of it at the time. Today I saw him in my backyard and his nose was dripping wet. He also had some black spots on his nose but I think the black spots could have been dirt from him foraging around. I became suspicious of his nose so I looked up online about Opossums with a runny nose and watery eyes but I couldnt find much about it other than it being a health concern. I've wondering what should I do... I dont know if this is a serious health concern or what. He is really chubby... I mean he is fat! So diet wise I think hes been getting enough food. I think he has been eating the cat food I leave out for the 7 feral cats in my neighborhood. I just got done emailing 10 wild life places in my area about this... Im really worried for my lil friend. I named him Melvin.

When I first saw him from far away I thought damn... Hes hideous looking... But then all that changed when I got close up with a flash light. I mean.. He is the cuddliest thing ever! His face is so adorable. He really looks like he came out of one of those 3D animated movies from Hollywood with those cute looking animated animals. I hope those wild life places give me a serious answer and no bullshit to collect money. I even emailed the zoo.

You said you got a close up with the flash light. Does this mean he willingly came close to you?

If he did then maybe Melvin is tame and was actually someone’s pet. When I was younger we had an opossum that started coming around, he was wearing a collar. He was careful but not really frightened of us. We started giving him cookies and such. It wasn’t a week before he wanted to be petted.

Most opossum will hiss at you if you get to close. If this one is not then he may be accustomed to humans. You might try tossing a cookie to him and see how he reacts. If he was someone’s pet then he is unlikely to survive in the wild.

Let me make one thing clear, I am in no way suggesting that you should approach an obviously wild opossum. That would be bad.
If you leave karma please leave your name as well so that I may reciprocate.
