RMT test message on phone?

I got the same message on my droid x this morning. I read it and reached got my glock 21, lol.

Got one on my Droid 2 and another on my husband's Droid X this morning. I think it's really nice to know they send these authorizations in the middle of the night when people are half asleep. I also got the 1:25pm msg too, not sure bout my hubby. I can already tell you I don't like the way this new system is turning out.

I got the same message on my Droid X, I'm in NJ, about 30 minutes from NYC/NYS border.

Verizon, like many of the rest of us, Googled it, but when I pushed them, they seem to have gone further.

He said it was a new emergency alert system that the government is working out, and the alerts are required from the FCC.

There is a post I saw on Google that seems to be from the FCC, but I haven't spent the time reading it thoroughly.

So these alerts are just on the east coast? Maybe I missed something.

HTC Droid with Verizon and located in Hays, KS. No such message so far(but then again nothing to major here other than drunks..

This is kinda freaky, I guess it makes sense that the gov. would be testing this now with the impending nationwide EAS test, but I wonder why only certain people (NY/NJ Verizon customers) were chosen to receive these messages? And without prior notification that we even had some EAS app downloaded to our phones by them? And the message itself was so dire; and only in small text at the top did it say "Test" When I got the second alert this afternoon, an option box popped up asking me if I wanted to kee receiving alerts, I hit No, then was brought to a manage app screen with checkboxes, and was able to uncheck Emergeny and Amber Alerts, but get this, the top option said "Presidential-level Alerts" and i was unable to uncheck that.... Something strange is afoot here...

I agree - something is off-key here.

I got the same litte red cross icon alert message. I'm also from NJ and have verizon as my carrier.

Trying to pin this, need some karma :(

But I think it is important.

I am in Ohio and have a DroidX. No message but I did find the app in my app list. Never noticed it until after my Droid did the latest upgrade maybe a few weeks ago. Is it possible to just delete the app?

I am in Maryland, I also have Verizon the droid incredible and no warning here.

Haven't gotten one on my cell yet but, I'm with AT&T and live in a dead zone - won't get any texts until I go out.

They already use the EAS for landlines here in Hawaii. We get automatic calls whenever there is a severe weather alert or tsunami warning.

They control us with Fear. These messages are another tactic to keep everyone afraid. When we are afraid, they can easily control us. We run to the gov for protection and they do the job we ask.

I recall someone posting a thread on GLP quite a while back about this new "useful government announcement feature" being integrated into phones soon.

I just went into Setting - Apps - Manage Apps, and under the "All" list the Emergency Alert app ahows up, but when you click it there is NO uninstall option. All my other apps have that... There is a Force Close button, but I don't think that will remove it?

Interesting - I work for DoD and I received an alert message testing the personnel accountability system this morning. Was told it sent in error.

I have Verizon on my BlackBerry, live just outside of NYC and did not get anything.

So, this is the "PLAN (Personal Localized Alert Network) Emergency Alert System" - which is set to go nationwide (major carriers) by 2012. And this is government mandated?

If you are receiving this alerts already, your carrier is already participating "ahead of schedule"...

Interesting to me, that mandated or not, opt-in or opt-out(?), this technology is using the GPS capabilities of the device. I'm definitely NOT okay with that.
