This is bad stuff, but the news is not reporting how bad.

See : [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Radioactivity, Arsenic, Mercury, Chromium, Led, Berrillium, and a slew of additional heavy metals.

Alkaline with Calcium Carbonate, but acidic from sulfur and NOX

Yummy

Re: Power Plant Dumps Fly Ash into Lake Michigan
Fly-Ash-This stuff is fine ass hell.
It will dilute somewhat, but thankfully it hardens a little in the presence of water. Sometimes used to line ponds.

It is carcinogenic, and should not be inhaled.

Hopefully, this spill (not near the first spill) will get a little more press about how bad coal is for us.

I have seen coal fired ethanol plants damage surrounding crop from the acid rain. These fucking coal fired plants have contaminated the earth with mercury. Go to the highest mountain stream, and you find mercury in the fish, and it is rising.

The shit is cheap alright, and this is not a Fukashima or BP scale environmental disaster, but it happened.

The fly-ash should have been in a landfill, but I bet you the reason they are storing it on site, is that the landfill will not accept it due to the level of contamination in the ash. Poor combustion and crappy coal are probably the root cause of the material storage on-site.

They have coal brokers buy the fuel on the cheap, but the fuel varies so much, they have a hard time controlling emissions.

"after Fukushima, this ain't no thing!" Yuk yuk yuk

I'm starting to think having our largest fresh water repositories be above ground is not a great thing.

Yea, it seems like a small spill comparitivly, but I am sure it will kill fish immediatly, and contaminate the water with heavy metals. I'm talking a lot of contamination locally, and low level contamination as it dilutes.

As for drinking water, we got some good shit underground : [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Big ass underground lake huh?

Pinworthy?

The fish wont die. They'll just swim away when the water starts going bad.

Coal ash is just fossilized dinosaurs and stuff. Its as natural as can be. Ash actually improves the soil.

Really, just common sense here.

I think this is another example of alarmist reporting on behalf of the media causing a fit of sensationalism in the public.

All too common I'm afraid. Learn to recognize it and beat it.

You are off your common sense rocker sir. You are as full of shit as it gets. If you would like to debate the benefits of fly-ash, I am all for it. It is quite useful.

Stuff is heavy metals and acids.
If fly ash is so great, why did they have a stockpile of it?
Perhaps it was too hot.

People like you make me look like I have a brain!
Thanks

So your experience shows that this is not a problem?
I really do give a shit about the planet, but if you want to call me an alarmist, gahead.

Why don't you go beat it huh?
