I am a full time student. I recently moved closer to campus to save on gas. The stress is becoming a distraction and is hurting my grades. I have even applied for the work study program at my campus. I have had many interviews, all with the same result, " we will give you a call on monday". Yeah, what monday is that? Im still waiting. Its sad when your school is not even offering you a job.

OP just take it one day at a time..one second at a time if you have to...thats what I do...tonight I have a roof and heat and a meal...right now things are good and thats all I have to focus on...leave tommorrow to tommorrow...be like the lilies of the field...if you have grown up Christian, sometimes the wisdom in that quote has helped me.

Re: Im broke, un-employed, and starting to freak out
Oh, fucking BULLSHIT! I am so goddamn sick of this propaganda! I have internet access right now b/c I am housesitting, one of many little side enterprises I am desperately scrambling for to keep up with bills. My usual living space is an uninsulated yurt with no electricity or running water.

I work two part-time jobs and as many side gigs as I can find, so long as they're ethical and legal. I have 15 years of experience and a college degree. I don't have a smart phone, I have a $10 Tracfone and no landline. My laptop is 3 years old, bought back when I last had a full-time job. My car is a 98 Subaru with an oil leak which I am trying to save up money to fix. I apply for every job I even THINK I might qualify for -- not just in my local area, either -- and 90% of the time I don't get even a "thanks but no thanks" response.

I am NOT lazy. I've worked since I was 13 years old. In fact, I WANT to work full-time. I NEED to work full-time. I have been looking for full-time work for 2 1/2 years and I count myself lucky to have the two part-time jobs I do have; but honestly, most months, my income is so low, that I qualify for food stamps.

Don't talk to me about the third world. I live in third-world conditions. I shit in an outhouse. I am a college-educated, job-experienced American who has never stopped looking for work, who cleans houses on the side whenever I can (believe me, house-cleaning gigs are HIGHLY competitive these days), and who has woken up on winter mornings to find the oil inside my oil lamps, frozen solid.

I bake my own bread b/c it's cheaper (and healthier. One of the upsides of my situation is that I have access t)o a large garden, and a neighbor with whom I trade bread for eggs. I can tomato sauce and apple sauce and blackberry jam and I scrounge, scrounge, scrounge. I am managing to save every month despite making less than $800 a month, usually. I work VERY hard to keep my head above water. I just pray that nothing serious happens to my old car, to my dog, or to myself. If I have a major crisis, I'm sunk.

I'm goddamn sick of people claiming that those of us who are poor are just lazy. Most poor folks work way harder than any rich folks could ever dream. And by the way, we're generally smarter, too; we are constantly having to budget and plot and plan and improvise. I'd love to see one of you smug assholes try to make it in the conditions I live in.clappa What until those assholes feel the pain too! They'll be the first to crack.

Funny how all the people who say they're "broke", homeless and so bad off can somehow afford computers, smart phones and internet access. It's all a bunch of bullshit so they have excuses to riot and cause anarchy. The American "poor" live better and are healthier than the "middle class" in third world countries. Try taking your lazy, whiny piece of shit ass to the slums in Brazil if you want to see how bad you could have it.

It is in your hands. If you don't call THEM back monday, you'll absolutely never get called back for an interview.

Join up with an occupy in your area. Help out, we can sometimes provide meals and great networking for potential employment. As I read that, it sounds sarcastic, but in our NYC occupy, we have amazing talent and creative ideas. I can't wait to hire some of the kids in our finance committee, when things get more settled.
Don't despair, DO!

Most companies advertise jobs these days online and want you to apply online so shut the fuck up you retard and go to bed like your mom told you. You have no fucking clue what things are like outside the bubble of the basement your mom provides for you. I send you ill will right now and wish upon you all the pain of everybody experiencing this right now. Good luck to you:)

You're not failing in life. You are failing in this society that has been created.

I think that's the major hangup we all come too and some realize it and others just continue to be complete jerkoffs to other people because they are depressed about being a failure, but really, you're not a failure if you stop playing the game.

Now, that's nearly impossible to do unless you want to live out in the woods somewhere running your laptop from a car battery...

So, is what you do is, "buy" yourself some more time, like the rest of us.

lol

Enroll in school, now.

Pretend like you like it and do it. That way you will have money to purchase food and to pay your rent so that you may wash your ass.

Don't let anyone else judge you. We all do what we have to do to survive within the confines of this system until it ceases to be. That's all.

Oh, and P.S. be grateful for what you have right now, today, this moment...

The universe reciprocates for gratitude... be grateful you have soap, water, food, drink, shelter, etc... just for today... and know that even if YOU "failed"... something else has plans for you.. and if you just let go and ride the wave, "it" will always take care of you.

May the force be with you.

I'm seriously tired of all these unemployed people complaining on this website. Get a job, it's not that hard.

If my kid can get a job at McDonald's, so can you. Everyone thinks because they went to college, got a degree and labored all these years in the workplace that they deserve some kind of "good" job when they get laid off or their company shuts down.

You don't deserve anything. Complaining about not having a job or not getting social services when you're unemployed is socialist. Period.

We're a capitalist society. If you don't have a job, it's because you have nothing to provide the system and don't deserve one.

You're just not trying to find a job hard enough. You need to pray to God to find you work and he will. It's simple, really. Don't send out any more applications, just pray and you'll be blessed.

God will take care of you if you pray to Him.

Wow. You guys are out in droves tonight.

How about improve your resume, look into temp agencies, check out craislist gigs?? Pray - well OK, whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Know what I have been taken care of by God and Him alone. For this I thank God for the blessings He has given me and know what I don't work full time nor do I seem to need to. Everything has been given to me by God alone. I have a roof over my head, food abundant, everything I love and adore. Been able to do my hobbies to, never worked full time in my entire 32 years, went to school, everything blessed by Him alone. God has looked after me everyday of my life. I never struggle ever. He is so good to me and could be good to you also if you believe in the Father of lights. God is within you.

I hate it when people rag on others for having computers/internet access when they say their ship is sinking. Up until recently I paid 9.95 a month for netzero internet access on a computer I'd had for YEARS. (My kid got a laptop from her dad and wanted good tv, so I'm paying a ton now...but it was elsewise previously and will return to such soon because I'm cheap.)

Point is...people have OLD computers and can get internet cheap as their ships are sinking AND INTERNET IS VERY IMPORTANT IN JOB SEARCHS THESE DAYS! Most places say to apply online and don't take in person approach!
