Its crazy. I had a dream about this phenom, but I had never seen it before.

That's clearly just the sun behind the clouds creating the effect on the camera's lens.

I wonder if thunder clouds are the only charge being picked up?

Now that second one more clearly shows the electrical nature found in the clouds,...imo.

I wonder why this is not more commonly witnessed?

In a recent press release, scientists from the Weizmann Institute and the Goddard Space Flight Center announced that a mysterious zone of previously undiscovered particles fills the airspace around clouds.

The electromagnetic field beneath a thunderstorm increases (up to 10,000 volts per meter) because it acts like a capacitor, storing energy from the surrounding environment. Observations have shown that a "wind" of charged particles blows toward the developing storm, which could be interpreted as a current flowing into the base of the clouds. The surrounding air is pulled along with the current flow and creates the powerful updrafts that sometimes rise into the stratosphere.

It might be the flood of ions into and out of clouds that is forming the “twilight zone” of unidentified particles that so mystifies the scientific community.

Well,...If this in new phenomena it would be a radically cool addition to everything else happening under the sun.

All of these visible signs of increase energy sure adds fuel to the fire of possible internal DNA modification.

Rather than distortions of droplets, perhaps these are "sundogs" or parhelia optical patterns caused by solar reflection from aligned ice crystals. A changing e-field could rotate all the ice plates or needles, causing the sundog to suddenly change shape and position. Or less likely, perhaps some condensing droplets are changing size under e-field influence (growth/shrinkage of small droplets is known to be altered by strong electrostatic fields.)

It's not any new phenomenon, it's simple electrowetting, it only is logical that ice crystals will have a tendancy to align as well.

Depends on which article you look at. Either way, this is a newly seen and very rare phenomenon. Of course, the way it is produced is not any new phenomenon.

Got any articles on electrowetting occurring in the clouds? I would love to see it!

BTW, if you can't pull up any articles on this, then I say it is a fairly new phenomenon for current times.
