Check compass settings please!
Ok, I've been around here awhile and I believe that I am a pretty level headed kinda guy who takes most of what's posted on GLP with a grain of salt.

There have been numerous 'Compass Setting Off' threads here and not once has my compass shown any variation.

I have it sitting in a stable position in my room, the position is marked so as to prevent the possibility of movement error. I've checked for metallic and magnetic interference and found none!

I have had this thing set up for months and this morning I find the it is off by about 1.5 degs.

Can anyone who has a similar set up check theirs please.

I live in Cairns QLD Australia.

Again, I have checked everything but can't find any interference!

Thanks Ozi

Re: Check compass settings please!
I've just taken some pics which I may post later but more for records sake. The area, including the compass is surrounded by dust so this is another indicator for me that nothing has moved.

If you're referring to YU55, yes I have thought of that but before I jump to conclusions about it, I would prefer to hear if anyone else has shown a deviation - 1 compass will prove nothing except that I have overlooked something!

referring to this: "The source of the display was a turning of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). The IMF tipped south for a while, partially cancelling Earth's north-pointing magnetic field. Solar wind entered the breach and fueled the auroras."

maybe?

Cheers mate, this is what I want to hear. A closer observation to me saying the same thing would rule out any local event and tend to indicate that something has moved with my setup.

Thanks, that may be it. If so it should return to normal position sometime soon and that would explain it.

Thanks I checked it out but it's beyond my understanding.

Meanwhile, about 4 hours ago, the compass had deviated back by about .5 deg and now, just before sunset, it is a full 2 degs out! So it seems to be wobbling.
