Anonymous Coward User ID: 1454475 United States 11/09/2011 08:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My take-----------------let him coach the five games or so he has left. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1419389 While Paterno definitely should have done more, as he himself says in his statement, he DID report this. He should have gone to the police, though. Nobody denies that. His greatest failing was letting the men he coached for so many decades down (in that he did not live up to the standard he himself set), but he is NOT the jerk a few are making him out to be. But what about Pres. Stanier? He was above EVERYBODY. Of course he knew. Yet he did DIDLY. Good thing he s resigning. Why are people seemingly pinning this on Paterno, though? I don't get. Thank you for your consideration. Everyone that knew but didn't call police should be fired for one and charged as accessories. They all wanted to protect their precious football program. I don't know how any of them can live with themselves. Maybe Paterno needs a good cornholing himself to get his head right. Its too bad that if he retired years ago when he should have he would have at least left the game with some dignity. Now he will be remembered as a disgrace. |

You know, that's true, but on the other hand, is he the ULTIMATE villain here? Sandusky, of course, is the ultimate one, but second to that Paterno? How about Speiner? He had ultimate control of this and did DIDLEY. And he could stay? Fuck that. What about the whole fucking school, to be honest? They literally worshipped a guy (Paterno) and a system (Penn State and its footnball program) like they were GODS. Which they were NOT. People forgot Paterno is human being, not a God, and Penn State is an institution, not a God. Which made it easier to ignore certain things. In a way, everybody connected to Penn State comes up short here. |

Another fact is that Sandusky's autobiography was named "touched." Talk about demonically inspired irony. |

I'd love to know where you read this, because it sure could help the case. He was told something (nobody knows what exactly, yet) second hand and passed it up the chain of command like he was supposed to do. I thought it was a Janitor who witnessed Sandusky's molestation episdoe. I DO agree that just passing it up to his supervisors was not enough. The thing is, and folks do not understand this, he was not legally required to go to the police at the time at the time, and apparently not now (unfortnately). Just heard this from a legal expert talking to Anderson Cooper on CNN. SHOULD have, absolutely-----but legally they did not have to. They were pbligated to notify thei direct superiors, but not the police. And this guy did. And sandusky legally was NOT part of the Penn State football program, having retired in 1999. So appraently they felt the decision to contact the police was up to Penn State officials's "discretion." Where the ball was dropped by Speiner, Paterno and others was not following up----just doing the "minimum" and just letting the matter drop. But really----is Paterno the ultimate guy to blame for that? What about speiner? It was during HIS watch. And yes, what about the Janitor who ALSO did not folloow up? Were they failed was not following up and letting this die. |

The persons that actually witnessed the abuse and didn't stop it or report it to authorities, they are the ones who should be held accountable. Here's the actual Grand Jury account [link to cnninsession.files.wordpress.com] - Lots of people actually saw what was going on, got upset, but didn't report it to police or step in and save the boys they saw getting assaulted.
