This came into my email inbox and I just had to share it....

The Fix
There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg , Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

 Quoting: Ozicell

This may be a tongue-in-cheek sort of thing, here, but the principles are a hell of a lot more sound than the bank and auto industry bailouts, which really just helped a lot of overpaid bankers and execs bonus out like madmen.

I think that if we cut a few things here and there, especially retirement benefits for members of Congress and their spouses, we could do a hell of a lot of auto-industry stimulus with a voucher program. You don't have to go really huge, but something like 15,000 toward a car for 100,000 disabled veterans is only 1.5 billion, which our gov could waste in 1/2 hour or less.

What if you live in California... Basic house is about 350-400k.

Buy a house - 350K

Buy an American Car - 30K

380k spent, now you only have 620k for the rest of your life...

Spend 50k a year, you'll be out of money in 13 years...

Hopefully die before age 63, or else you're completely out of cash...

Childishly simplistic NONSENSE!

First, there AREN'T 40 million people AVAILABLE to take those jobs.

If there WERE that many people available, HOW would you TRAIN them to be Doctors, Lawyers, Pilots, Teachers, and such, when MOST of them would be wastoid slacker losers?

THEN there is the fact that there AREN'T 40 million American cars available, and COULDN'T BE for many years.

ADD in that there aren't 40 million houses to buy (let ALONE 40 million AFFORDABLE ones in liveable condition!!).

THEN, of course, there's the small (sic) problem with WHAT would these 40 million people LIVE ON after spending their million dollars on crappy cars and over-priced houses???

sigh

People over 50 in the work force r @ there highest earning potential in there life. They pay more taxes & contribute large into SS & Medicare. So 1st off u lose the people who r paying a great deal of the tax burden.

I don't think it a good idea, but I am over 50 and could use the money.
