Shock finding: More than 75 percent of all 'honey' sold in grocery stores contains no honey at all,by definition
[link to www.naturalnews.com]

(NaturalNews) Just because those cute little bear-shaped bottles at the grocery store say "honey" on them does not necessarily mean that they actually contain honey. A comprehensive investigation conducted by Food Safety News (FSN) has found that the vast majority of so-called honey products sold at grocery stores, big box stores, drug stores, and restaurants do not contain any pollen, which means they are not real honey.

For the investigation, Vaughn Bryant, one of the nation's leading melissopalynologists, or experts in identifying pollen in honey, and director of the Palynology Research Laboratory at Texas A&M University, evaluated more than 60 products labeled as "honey" that had been purchased by FSN from ten states and the District of Columbia.

Bryant found that 76 percent of "honey" samples purchased from major grocery store chains like Kroger and Safeway, and 77 percent of samples purchased from big box chains like Sam's Club and Wal-Mart, did not contain any pollen. Even worse were "honey" samples taken from drug stores like Walgreens and CVS, and fast food restaurants like McDonald's and KFC, 100 percent of which were found to contain not a trace of pollen.

The difference is night and day too. The taste is way different and it's darker.

GreenWay can be found in a few supermarket chains and its a good honey but better still is locally produced honey from small bee keepers.

We have a few here on Long Island and its sold at local farms and farm stands and vinyards.

i think not many people realize the gravity of the honey scandal
it means other foods we are eating are not what they say
it means we cannot trust
without trust there cannot be love
and without love there is nothing
so now there is nothing

The Natural News article was based on this one from

Food Safety Network

[link to www.foodsafetynews.com]

That is a nice long article, they worked hard on this project. Lots of comments there too.

I have always checked the label on honey to make sure it is made in USA, but I guess that is not a good indicator of a quality product.

I've been buying big bottles of Fred Meyer honey and was happy with the flavor and that it said it was from "northern US states", but apparently that's one of the pollen free brands. I tried some Trader Joe's honey not long ago and didn't really like it but the price was right and the article says that one is okay.

I'd buy local honey but it is so expensive, might as well buy maple syrup if I'm going to go that route.

Thanks for posting this information, it is really interesting and helpful.

I have heard this about olive oil too, I wonder if that food safety network site has articles about that.

I heard a lot of olive oil you buy is really hazelnut oil, soy oil, etc. I look at where it is from and try not to buy the stuff that says it's mixed together from all kinds of southern European and northern African countries. The last stuff I got was Spanish, said it was bottled by the grower. Of course it would be best to buy California olive oil.

I buy local honey with the honeycomb still in it but it is expensive. Is there anything now that we consume, that is untouched by chemicals/additives/ etc? Not unless you grow it yourself I guess...
