Oh, I have to have homemade punkin pie!

Does anyone have a favorite pie recipe? Anything with cherries and a cumble topping?

YUM - sounds like a good helping of High Fructose Corn Syrup and MSG. Check the ingredients on all of that stuff.

Doing everything from scratch and organic this year

I was gonna say...that would give me a blown up bellie for a week with major pain. All the additives and the pain...
I'd rather not have anything...

'Cept the apple, onion, potatoes, peas, carrots and butter...I'd make potato soup and fried apples...steamed peas and carrots and be full and satisfied. :)

Plus you could saute the peas and carrots in butter with a little sugar, brown sugar, molasses, and sweetin' them up and have two types of vegies.

Good luck finding a turkey @ $.89lb. I think those daze are behind us.

Your heart is in the right place, hope your Thanksgiving is a nice one! hf

Oh, if you want meat, try Cornish Hens, or roast a chicken.

yes and much of OP's menu is SHIT store bought crap. And you ones should really drop that turkey, cheap though it is, because they are raised cruelly, you are not giving thanks to god using them at all. And they are full of chemical SHIT to make them "juicey" that is composed of phosphates that will increase your arthritis, which is WHY they use phosphates and they take of the chemicals, they are awful. Who says you have to do turkey, custom?????? How can you ones stand to eat them, for the chemical taste. Last time before I went off flesh, I had purchased more than one because I used to can turkey during the holidays to us in soups and casseroles all year long and we could not eat the canned turkey, it really tasted BAD, the chemicals just "bloomed" during the canning process.

You people are charged to care for the body which is the temple of your soul this journey and that includes what you feed it.

Buy and consume the cleanest food you can get and to HELL with eating a polluted bird for thanksgiving. You are MIND CONTROLLED TO EAT this Shit, and do not let your relatives convince you to do so to maintain a dangerous "custom". But we always eat turkey for thanksgiving is NOT an excuse. Find a back bone and SHOW a better way.

Oh, NIP, I think a lot of people that are struggling finically go to the grocery store and do what they have to do. Not everyone has the luxury of a garden or even friends with a garden. I know I've found myself many times buying 89 cent hot dogs and 23 cent ramen noodles.

Health conscience eating can be extremely expensive for those that don't have a garden. And im finding even local farmers markets are very expensive.

OP gave a wonderful idea for people that are low on cash. I agree with careful planning a much more nutritious/ healthy meal can be had, but again, many people rely on coupons and sales and the things that are offered in those are always processed/unhealthy foods.

I finally decided to grow my own of a lot of things, would love to have chickens as well but my zoning doesn't allow it.

Re: How to Serve Thanksgiving Dinner with all the Trimmings for 8 to 10 People for $30 with LEFTOVERS!
as to turkey prices, here in Denver at King Soopers, butterballs are 1.29 lb

Honey suckle white and private selection is $10 each up to 15.99 lb. JenniO, the worst brand anywhere, $7 for ONE up to 15.99 lb. on all the above the limit is one. larger birds are $2 more per each. the price on additional birds, is 1.39 a pound. Obviously if you need a lot of terrible birds, you buy one of each on sale, take them to your car, and go back in and get more UG..... these are POISON people. and they taste like poison unless you have such corrupted taste buds you can't take the chemicals.

Why would you do this to your bodies, and also to the childrens bodies?

I eat WELL on vegetable foods for far less than the CRAP in the stores. and when cash is good, stock up on sales. Meat WILL KILL YOU. especially that these days. And once you give it up, it tastes even worse. People have the power of their money, don't buy the shit and it will disappear from the stores.

I am even going back to canning if I want some convenience and saving on containers, that don't land up in land fills. There is no excuse for living like you ones do, you have power n your churches and groups to change this world.

I don't have a garden right now, because something is wrong with my dirt and shit won't grow in it. I have been rehabing the soil for 2 years now. But my small space I have to garden doesn't supply a large amount of my food anyway. Only fresh stuff in summer.

i have lived on a restricted budget forever. I don't waste money on foods anyway, I prefer to spend money on something else where possible. I KNOW THE ROPES AND IF YOU ONES STARTED TO ACTUALLY COOK, YOU WOULD SAVE HUGE AMOUNTS ON YOUR GROCERY BILL AND IF YOU GAVE UP POPS AND OTHER SUCH SHIT, YOU COULD ACTUALLY AFFORD FOOD. LOOK AT WHERE YOU WASTE MONEY.

THERE ARE HUGE CHEMICAL FACTORIES IN NEW JERSEY THAT MAKE THE POISONS THEY PUT IN YOUR FOODS THAT YOU ARE ADDICTED TO AND WHICH HARM YOUR BODY TEMPLE. YOU CAN DO BETTER.

I guess I'll take a bite, but won't be eating

That is probably one of the worst fights my husband and I have ever had, I finally put my foot down, grocery shop alone. Make a meal plan, I do let him decide which meals he wants which days (some meals are made with left overs and it's denoted in the menu) giving him that choice has helped immensely. Then after about 2 months when he saw the savings he was on board!

We have wild turkey all around us, 15 in the back yard last month, 4 walking across the road last week...

I was gonna say where's the beer and wine?

Plus, my brother is doing the honors this year...he wants to "deep fry" the turkey... 8--(nooooooo)!

I guess I'll take a bite, but won't be eating
more than that on the turkey next Thursday.
Can't eat like that...

deep fried turkey is not what you think it is...

its not breaded you know.

the high heat locks in all the juices and divinely crisps the skin.

i can guarantee you will eat more than one bits.

its the best..better than roasted!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1379065

Yes, the taste may be fantastic...however, heating oil high temps creates free radicals, plus the process of making the oil...i.e., corn, peanut, is a high heat process in itself.

So I stay away from the deep fryer as much as possible...but once a year ain't gonna hurt you...'cept, I might get a belly ache from it cause I'm not used to that process of cooking. I'd try a tiny bit, and if my tummy is okay an hour later, I'll indulge more... :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We are truly a nation of many blessings.
And I know there's a shitload of garbage out there.
We are to thank the Lord for our many blessings daily. Thanksgiving is a day that helps those who don't remember to thank the Lord everyday to at least thank Him THAT day. hf

YUM - sounds like a good helping of High Fructose Corn Syrup and MSG. Check the ingredients on all of that stuff.

Doing everything from scratch and organic this year

Wait until it's closer to Thanksgiving to purchase your turkey. The stores will offer special prices.

Not really familiar with American shopping, but common sense would suggest that following this suggestion would increase your chance of not getting a turkey at all, since they will all be sold out.

^this.. last year I went a couple days before and there were NO turkeys at all at walmart. Went to publix and they only had like 3 of the huge ones. I needed a small one for my sons school since the other volunteer backed out last min. So I had to get a ham lol... kids liked it better anyway lol

Aside from the turkey... the rest is very doable.. stovetop stuffing is cheaper then doing it yourself though~ Although homemade mashed potatoes are cheaper and way better then instant. But instead of crossants I use the hawaiian sweet rolls, and make a topping of melted brown sugar and cinnamon and drip it over the tops before putting them in the oven for a min~ sooooo gooddd~
